Miss Winnie McLean Honored At Party On Friday evening, Mrs. D. E. Turner and Mrs. J. M. Nichols entertained at the Nichols home, honoring Miss Winnie Sue McLean, bride-elect of May. The bridal colors, green and white, were used throughout the house in the flowers and other decorations. Immediately after arrival, the guests were invited Into the diningroom where refreshments were served. Games were enjoyed by the forty guests. At the end of the party Miss McLean was presented with a shower of lovely gifts. WilkesboroClub In Monthly Meeting The Woman's club meeting of Wilkesboro as held Friday evening at the Community House with Mesdames Charles McNeill, O. K. Whittington, Pauline Doughton, and Woodrow Brookshire as associate hostesses. Mrs. W. T. Long, the president, presided for the meeting, which was featured with reports from the state convention held in Goldsboro last week. Attending the convention from Wilkesboro were Mrs. Long and Mrs. Presley Myers, both of whom gave interesting accounts of the meeting. During the business session the club voted to enter the "Building Better Community" contest, which is being sponsored by the State Federation of Woman's clubs. Program chairman, Mrs. R. B. Pharr. gave a sketch of the life of John Charles McNeill, North Carolina poet, and read a number of his poems. Refreshments and a social hour were enjoyed at the close of the meeting. D. A. R. Chapter Met Tuesday Afternoon The April meeting of the Rendezvous Mountain Chapter of the Daughters of the American Rerolution was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ward Bshelman with Mrs. Claude Doughton as associate hostess. Mrs. Gordon Finley, the regent, was in charge of the business session. Miss Jo Ann Vaught, who was chosen as Good Citizenship Pilgrim from the Wilkesboro high school, attended the meeting and showed her scrapbook to the group. During the business session a number of officers wer eelected, and are as follows: Mrs. Eahelman, secretary; Miss Lucy Finley, registrar; Mrs. Joe E. Johnson, chaplain; Mrs. Russell G. Hodges, historian; and Miss Rebecca Moseley, librarian. , The hostesses served refreshments during the social hour. Mrs. Ray Barnes Entertains Her Club The members of the Sans Souci club and some extra guests were entertained by Mrs. Ray Barnes at her home on B street Monday evening. Three tables were placed for bridge amid a setting of mixed spring blossoms. High and second high score prizes for club members were won by Miss Mildred Bradford and Mrs. Jack Swofford, while the visitors' high went to Mrs. Boyd Stout. Coming in for the salad course served at the close of play was Mrs. S. C. Ellis and Mrs. Harley Ellis. The latter Mrs. Ellis, who, prior to her marriage, was Miss Louise Ledford, of Shelby, was remembered with a gift. Woman's Bible Class In Monthly Meeting Mrs. Rom H. Pearson and Miss Lizzie Hisle were hostesses to the members of the Woman's Bible class held at the Pearson home Tuesday afternoon, having sixteen present. Mrs. R. M. Brame, Sr., led the opening devotions, after which Mrs. Fred Clark presented another chapter In the Bible study book, "The Newness of Life". Mrs. Isaac Eller, Sr., the president, presided for routine business. Refreshments were enjoyed during the social hour. Mrs. I. E. Pearson Entertains Her Club A delightful club party of the •week was the one given toy Mrs. I. E. Pearson at her home on Sixth street Friday evening. Three tahles were made up for rook including the Tea and Topics club members and four visitors, Mesdames Frank Tomlinson, W. M. DeBerry, C. B. Eller, and K. J. Hinshaw. Mrs. Warner Miller, Sr., held the traveler's prise, Mrs. Gordon Finley and Mrs. Ira Payne wee winners of the high and low score awards. The hostess served a dessert course at the (beginning of play. Wesley Bible Class Met Tuesday Evening The Wesley Bible class of the North Wilkesboro First Methodist church met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Carl Steele with Mrs. W. G. Gabriel as associate hostess. Mrs. Palmer Horton gave the devotions and program, and Mrs. Thurman Kenerly was in charge of the business session. Fifteen members were present and were served refreshments during the social hour. Mrs. Bob Kite Bridge Club Hostess Mrs. Bob Kite was hostess to the members of the Pastime Bridge club at her home Monday evening. The game was played at two tables, and daring .play the hostess served a salad coarse. The traveler's prize was held by Mrs. Johnson Sanders, and high and second high score awards were won by Mrs. Robert Gambill and Mrs. Charles Day, Jr. Sunday School Class Has Weiner Roast Mrs. A. B. Johnston, teacher, entertained the members of the third year class in the Junior Department of the third year class in the Junior Department of the. First Methodist church school at a weiner roast at the Johnston cabin east of the city Wednesday afternoon. The iboys and girls were directed to a number of games by Miss Jo Lassiter, director of religious education. o A limited supply of N. C. 27 and Dixie 17 hybrid corn seed is available in most seed stores of the State.
