Gill stated.
Early in March the revenue department

Former Police Officer
Found Guilty In Case
Newton, May 2.—Aside from
the fact that Hickory Township
Constable O. D. Barrs has appealed
his conviction and $1,000 fine
from the Hickory municipal
court, the celebrated Catawba
County whisky case ended with
the conviction of George Sherrill,
a former Hickory policeman, on
a charge of possession and transportation
of illicit liquor.
Sherrill, who was arrested with
Barrs and O. D. Hunt, owner of
a night cl*b where Barrs and
Sherrill were supposed to be delivering
whisky, was fined $400
and assessed the court costs.
He also appealed to Superior
Court and has been released under
bond of $'500. A bond of $750
has been fixed and met on the
automobile which was allegedly
used in the transportation case.
Barrs has since asked the Catawba
County commissioners that
he be relieved of his duties as
Hickory Township constable, due
to "ill health." This request has
been granted. Barrs and Sherrill
are due for Superior Court trials
in July in Newton.

One application of rotenone
insecticide each "week will control
most of the insect pests of
the home vegetable garden. It
isn't necessary to know a lot aibout
Insects, jnst apply it every
week unless It rains shortly after
the application; then repeat.
Rotenone, like other insecticides,
will he washed off by rain.
Rotenone will control bean
beetles on ibeans; flea beetles on
tomatoes, radishes, carrots, beets,
and plants grown for greens. It
will control cucnmber beetles on
melons and squash; caterpillars
on cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower
and lettuce; and worms on cantaloupes.
Either spraying or dusting will
do the job if it is applied so
that a light, even coating covers
the plant. Rotenone dust can be
obtained ready-mixed. But to be
effective it must contain not less
than 0.75 per cent of rotenone.
