Miss McLean Is Bride Of Walter Wayne Hall Miss Wtnpie Sue McLean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John David McLean, of Cricket, became the bride of Walter Wayne ' Hall, of Winston-Salem, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry William Hall, of Halls Mills, in a lovely ceremony solemnized Sunday afternoon, May 1, at 4:30 o'clock In the Union Methodist church at Cricket. Rev. C. J. Winslow, pastor of the bride, officiated using the double ring ceremony. Wedding music was provided by Mrs. Charlie Warren, pianist, and Miss "Virginia Isaacs, soloist. White gladioli, pines, and ah ivy covered arch, lighted by white candles in branched-candelabra formed a nuptial setting. Mrs. Clyde Shumaker was matron of honor, Miss Imogene Hall., sister of the bridegroom, and Mrs. Edward Pendry were brides• maids. All three carried nosegays of mixed sweetpeas, and their headdresses were halos of flowers like those of their bouquets. Misses Nancy and Susan Billings, junior bridesmaids, had gowns of ice blue satin made similar to the other attendants. Miss Linda Vannoy, cousin of the 'bride, and flower girl,, wore a gown of white satin fashioned like that of the bride. Fred McLean, brother of the brtde, Was best man. Ushers were Howard Nichols, cousin of the bride, and Oliver Owens. The bride, :given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of candlelight satin with a marquisette yoke outlined by a bertha of alencon lace and a tiered cascade of the same lace extending the full length of the full skirt, which ended in a court train. Her fingertip veil of imported illusion fell from a coronet of orange .blossoms, and her only orna ment was a string of pearls. She carried a bouquet of white roses centered with Wi orchid. Following the ceremony, the couple left for a northern wedding trip. For travel the bride changed to a suit of 'bride's blu9 with navy and white accessories. At her shoulder she pinned the orchid from her bridal bouquet. Mrs. Hall, a graduate of Millers Creek high school and the Appalachian State Teachers College | at Boone, is now a member of the i faculty of Union elementary school. (Mr. Hall, a graduate of the North Wilkesboro high school and a Veteran of World War II, is now employed by Western Electric Company in WinstonSalem, where the couple will reside after June the first. The Rehearsal A On Saturday evening following the rehearsal the bride's aunt, Mrs. J. M. Nichols, entertained at a rehearsal party honoring the bridal couple and members of their wedding party. Approximately forty were present, other guests including members of the two families and a few close friends. The bridal mOtif was used throughout the home. The hride's table, spread with a white cloth, was decorated in white flowers and white candles. The three-tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bride and groom, was cut for the traditional tokens of fortune, from which extended white satin streamers. After the bridal coaple had cut the first slice of cake, it was finished by Mrs. Glate Snider. Mrs. Hardin Owens presided at the punch bowl, and those assisting with the serving were Mrs. Glenn Wyatt and Miss Mary Nichols. The Navy's new 65,000-ton supercarrier is 1,090 feet long. Birthdav Party For Mrs. Billings Mrs. Margie Wood and Mrs. Margaret Miskelly gave a surprise birthday party for their sister, Mrs. A. C. Billings,* of Hays, on Saturday, April 30th. Guests present at the party were* Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Billings, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Reynolds, Mr. and Mrs. Q. Q. Wood,' Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Higglnq, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Mlskelly, Miss, Lura Reynolds, Mr. Chester Cau<1111, Miss Margie Lu Mlskelly, and Mr. William Reynolds. After presenting Mrs. Billings with birthday gifts bingo was played by all the guests. o •Sweet potatoes are an important source of raw material for starch manufacture. Stock Car Race Here Postponed UntilMay 22nd Stock car races originally scheduled to be held at the North Wilkesboro Speedway on May 8 have been postponed until Sun day, May 22. Announcement of the new date was contained in a wire received late Monday by The JournalPatriot from Bill France, widely known race promoter and director who stages the stock car events at the North Wilkeeboro Speedway. France said that the nation's best known drivers will participate in the rtoce May 22.
