Newcomb To Speak
At Ladies' Night K.
Of P., Pokies Club
Alan H. 'Newcomb, one of the
south's outstanding speakers,
■wiH address the ladies night banquet
of Knights of Pythias lodge
and Dokies club to be held Friday,
May 13, at Carolina Restaurant.
Although
still a ; young man,
Alan H/lfewcpmb has gained an
enviable reputation on the lecture
platform as a humorist,
philosopher, and after-dipnar
speaker, and his depth of experience
has given him an ease of
manned and variety of expression
that mark him as a "comer"
in this field.
A bomber pilot in the late'war,
Lt Newcomb flew many missions
over Germany, and in 1944 was
shot down over the Ruhr Valley
and became a prisoner of war tintil
the conclusion of hostilities.
While in prison, he kept a complete
diary of the events there,
and upon his return to the States
and civilian life, this diary became
the book, "Vacation With
Pay." This fascinating record of
prison-camp experiences has enJoyed
great success, particularly
because It does not tell a grim
story, but a very human and amusing
one, of the reactions of
young Americans to the discomforts
and privation of prison life.
Mr. Newoomb, a graduate of
Ohio Wesleyan University, has
been active in radio work since
the war, and is now Program Director
and Feature Announcer
now with WIS, Columbia. In addition
to these responsibilities, he
Is now traveling extensively, appearing
before leading (lutot
trade and pfofesfional associations'
in the Eastern United
States. Civic organizations have
expressed in glowing terms the
suitability of his talks for their
"Ladles' Nights," and other
meetings.
On every occasion, Alan H.
Neweomb has proved he can deliver
an afternoon or evening of
entertainment that is hard to
equal. And the inspirational philosophy
which forms the basis of
his thinking is gratefully received
• by his hearers everywhere.
