Ferris, of Piedmont Land company in Greensboro, was a business visitor in this city Tuesday. Mrs. Paul Green spent tfye week-end at Greensville with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Herring. Dr. and Mrs. P. D. Warren, of Huntsville, Ala., are spending this week with Mrs. Warren'3 father, Dr. W. A. Taylor. Mrs. M. F. Garlton and son, Phil, spent Friday afternoon, with Miss Lois Alexander, of Roaring River. Mrs. James Hubbard has returned to her home In Wllkesboro after visiting her brother, Mr. John Wright, who was a patient in a Wytheville, Va., hospital, and relatives in Independence and Galax, Va. * Mrs. Earl. Meadows returned Wednesday to her home at Pores Knob after being a patient at the Wilkes hospital for several days. Mr. J. E. Holshouser, of Boone, law partner of Attorneys Eugene Trivette and Wm. G. Mitchell, of this city, attended superior court in Wiikesboro this week. Attorney J. H.' Burke, of Taylorsville, has been attending Wilk6S superior court and visited his son, Attorney Harold Burke, this week. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Kerbaugh have returned home from a recent visit with relatives at Johnston City, Teftn., and other nearby points. Mr. and Mrs. Weaver Starr and two daughters. Misses Mary Miller and Ann Weaver Starr, spent j the week-end with relatives in1 Pageland, S. C. Mr' and Mrs. W. M. McCulley, of Salisbury visited Mrs. McCulley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Eller, here during the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Miller and Mrs. Blanche W. Miller visited relatives and friends in High ■Point, l^pulsburg and Raleigh last weekend. 'H" ■> Mr. C. B. Eller, Wilkes superintendent of schools, was in Raleigh yesterday and today in the interest of the county schools system. Mrs. J. B. Clements has returned to her home in Greensboro, and Mrs. B. F. Pollard to her home in Marlon, after visiting Misses Lucy and Grace Finley. Pvt. Carson P. Nichols, after eight weeks training at Fort Jackson, S. C., is now a postal clerk in Hawaii. Pvt. Nichols is the son of Mr. and Mrs. -M. F. Nichols, of Wilkesboro route one. Mr. Wiley Brooks returned ruesday to his home north of this ;ity from the Wilkes hospital, rhere he underwent a major operation two weeks ago.. Friends ire glad to learn he is recoverng. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Forehand and children, Vania Lee, Jan ind Roy, Jr., returned Wednesiay from Portsmouth, Va., where :hey visited Mr. Forehand's fathjr and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Jj T, Forehand. Mr. and. Mrs. W. A. Hardister and two sons, Bill and David, went to Asheville for the weekjnd to visit with Mrs. Hardister's nother and grandmother, Mrs. C. E. Crompton and Mrs. M. C. Boyd. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Long and iaughter and two sons, Miss Ruth Long, Tommy and John Long, spent Saturday at Cornells with Mr. Long's mother, Mrs W". E. Long, and at Harmony Sunday with Mrs. Long's mother, Mrs. R. L. Reid. Sgt. O. C. Bumgarner, Jr., U. 3. M. C., Cherry Point Air Base, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Bumearner, Sr., of North Wilkesboro, Route 1. Sgt. Bumgarner re-enisted in the U. S. M. C. in November of 1948. He was accompanied home by two marines from tforth Wilkesboro, one from Atanta, Ga., one from Mississippi, ind one from Chicago*. 411. - ^ i i - - Mr. Tom Jenrette, manager of the Wilkes Chamber of Commerce, is a patient at the Wilkes hospital, where he is receiving treatment for a severe eye injury received Saturday afternoon in an accident at his home. It is believed that he has lost sight in one eye. \ Mrs. Wesley B. Locke, of Memphis, Tenn., was critically hurt in an auto accident in Tennessee Sunday night. Mrs. Locke, a niece of Mrs. James Lowe and Mr. J. D. Hall, of Wilkesboro, was with her husband, a medical student in memphis, when the accident occured. Mr. Locke was killed and Mrs. Locke had both legs broken, a fractured skull, broken jaw and other injuries, but may recover. Mr. Locke's sister also was in the car and was severely hurt. Mrs. Locke is the daughter of Mrs. W. E. Keeter, of Charlotte. o — Square Dance May 14th At Pores Knob A square dance will be held Saturday night at Pores Knob community house for benefit of the community house fund. A string band will furnish music and an enjoyable occasion is anticipated. o Dokies, K. of P. To Have Ladies Night Knights of Pythias lodge and Dokies club will have ladies' night banquet Friday night at 7:30,. at The Carolina Restaurant. Allan H. Hayes, of Wilkesboro, presiding. The. court has a docket of many cases, composed mainly of charges of violation of the federal liquor tax laws.
