Cricket Club Learns
About Food Freezing
The average modern homemaker
does not stop to think
how fortunate she is to hare so
many extra hours offered to her
if she preserves her surplus foods
the freezing way. We are fortunate
again to have home agents
come into our community and
tell and show us just how this is
done with no expense added. Mrs.
Annie H. Greene gave a splendid
demonstration on the subject of
"Preserving Foods .by Freezing"
to a group of 25 at the regular
May meeting of the Cricket Club,
Wednesday afternoon, May 4.
This meeting was held at the
home of Mrs. J. M. Nichols. Serving
with her as associate hostesses
were Mrs. E'. W. Baker, Mrs.
C. R. Warren and -^kflss Mary
Nichols.
Tne group sang "God Bless
America." For devotional Mrs.
Bob Church read verses J 4
through 45 from the 25th Chapter
of Matthew, and Mrs. J. P.
Crysel lead the prayer. Reports
from the various officers and
committees were heard and approyed.
In the absence of our Home
Beautification Leader Mrs.
Greene gave some helpful suggestions
from Mr. John Harris on
the care and planting of various
bulbs and flowers.
Before Mrs. Greene vent into
- —
the matter of actually preparing
the green beans for freezing
she showed us many different
types of containers commonly
used In freezer lockers. Also the
equipment needed In the preparation
of fruits and vegetables
were shown. Then each step In
preparing snap beans was given
to us by Mrs. Greene. It was
pointed out that foods thus prepared
had a more nutritive value,
in addition to retaining so much
of their original flavor. And, too,
it is a mighty pleasant feeling to
dash in from work, or a club
meeting, and prepare an entire
meal right from the freezer in
short order, then hear the family
rave about what good things
"mom" can cook. Let's all resolve
to "freeze more" and spend
less time In the kitchen.
As the roll call was made each
member wearing a new dress
"was asked to "model" it. Miss
Mary Nichols was winner for
having the prettiest dress; Mrs.
Clyde Shoemaker as having the
best set-in zipper and Mrs. Mamie
Church won the prize for the
neatest bound buttonhole. Visitors
at this meeting were Miss
Winnie McLean and Mrs. Q. A.
Kilby.
During the social period Mrs.
Thompson led a very interesting
game and' the hostesses served
delicious refreshments.—Reported.
