Help keep the faith by wearing a veteran made poppy on Poppy Day, May 28th. Attorney W. , H. McElwee returned Monday from a business trip, to Atlanta, Oa. Mr. Hight Helms is in St. Louis this week looking after business matters for Wilkes Farm Center. Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Church, Mr. J. L. Herndon and Mrs. Alva Stuckey visited Mr. Forest Church, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Church, in Mount Airy Wednesday. * I Mr. Lane Atkinson, Jr.( who bas been engaged in photographic work in High Point, spent the week-end at home here. Every person who wears a poppy on Poppy Day not only pays tribute to the war dead, but helps the war's living victims. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Walker, of Danville, Virginia, spent the week-end with his uncle, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Walker, of Hays, N. C. j Mr. Effner Eller has returned to his home in Winston-Salem from Charlotte Memorial Hospital, where he underwent a major operation.* Friends and relatives here are glad to know he is recovering. Miss Ella Sockwell, of Greenville visited here from/Saturday until Monday, with her mother and sister, Mrs. C. L». Sockwell and Miss Mamie Sockwell. ^ Mr. Hilton Johnson, Jr., "of Greensboro, spent the week-end here in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Pardue, and with othfer relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bowen, of Winston-Salem, visited here during the week-end with Mrs. Bowen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie McNeil. Mrs. O. E. Triplett returned to her home on Ninth Street Wednesday from the Wilkes Hospital, where she had been a patient since Thursday. Mr. W. J. M. Harrold and Mr. S. B. Absher, of Mulberry lodge, attended the grand lodge session of I. O. O. P. in Greensboro last week. Mr. Robert S. Gibbs and son, Hyatt, spent the week-end In Athens, Ga.( with Mr. and Mrs. John D. Gambill. Mr. Gambill is a brother of Mrs. Robert S. Gibbs. Mr. J. U Herndon and Mrs. Alva Stuckey, of Richmond, Va.i are visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. K. Church in Wilkesboro. I Mr. Tom Jenrette, wlo suffered severe eye injury in an accident May 7, remains a patient at the Wilkes hospital, where hie condition remains toout the same. Chatham, who holds a position with a Ford Motor company plant at Memphis, came home to attend the funeral of Mrs. Chatham's sister, Mrs. L. T. Barnard. Mr. Chatham remained jto spend three weeks on his farm in the North Wilkesboro rou^e three community. Mr. Ralph Adams flew his plane from Waynesburg, Va., to North Wilkesboro to attend the funeral of his grandfather. He and his brother, Joe, returned the following evening and spent the night in Danville with their father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Adams. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Fritts, of Augusta, Oa.y spent the week-end with Mrs. Fritts' parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Culler. Mr. Fritts has returned to Augusta and Mrs. Fritts) the former Miss Lena Culler, remained for a more extent ed visit. Mr. Qeorge Childress has returned from Mount Airy, where he spent last week assisting in the opening of a new Penney store there. Mr. Childress is assistant manager of the J. C. Penney company Btore in this city. Mfs. W. R. Absher went to Charlotte Monday to visit her daughter,, Mrs. A. T. Lott, who istserlously ill at the Mercy Hospital following an operation. Mr. Lott's condition, who is also a patient there, remains about the same. ■ o Mrs. N. O. Smoak returned to her home in Wilkesboro Monday from Johnston City, Tenn., where she had visited since Saturday in the home of her sister, Mrs. John M. Maden. Mrs. Smoak went to Johnston City especially because of the injury her niece, Miss Ann Maden, received in a Jeep accident on Thursday. Miss Maden lost the sight of her right eye, but the other occupants of the jeep, her twin sister, Miss Clara Maden, and Miss Ann Kennedy were uninjured. Millers Creek Finals Jane 3 Dr. Avery M. eihurch, of Winston-Salem, will preach the baccalaureate Bermon at Millers Creek high school Sunday night, May 29, eight o'clock. Dr. Church is a native of the community 'and a former Millers Creek student. Rev. C. E. Rozzelle, of Wif ston-Salem, will deliver the commencement address at the school finals to be held Friday night, June 3, at the school.
