Bason was hostess to the members of the Wednes day Sewing club and ojie addi tional guest, her mother, Mrs.. J. E. Spalnhour, it her home on B Street Wednesday afternoon. Fol lowing an informal hour the hos tess served tempting refresh ments. Mrs. W. F. Blair Bridge Club Hostess Mrs. W. F. Blair was hostess to the members of the Friday bridge club at her home on Fifth Street Friday afternoon. A spec ial guest of the club was Mrs. A. W. Horton, of Carpenteria, Cali fornia, who was here-' #isiting with relatives. Mrs. Horton, a former member of the club, was remembered with a gift. Table priies went to Mrs. P. W. Eshel man and Mrs. Hill Carlton. The guests on arrival were served re freshments. D. A. R. Chapter Met On Tuesday Afternoon The May meeting of the Ren dezvous Mountain Chapter of the Daughters of the American Rev olution was held Tuesday after noon at the home of Mrs. Gordon Finley with Miss Lucy Finley and Mrs. Harvey Church, of Ronda, as associate liostesses. Mrs. Pin ley, the regent, presided, and for the program the large number of members attending gave some current events of interest. The four girls, Misses Anita Brown, Clarine Frances, Betty Jean McNeill, and Rachel Scroggs( who made entries for the D. A. R. Homemakers at the State Conference held In Asheville this spring, were invited to attend the meeting. Miss Brown, who won second place in the contest, mod eled her dress at the meeting and was presented with a D. A. R. Homemaker pin by the local chapter. The girls are students of Miss Ruby Dancy's Home Eco nomics class in the North Wil kesboro high school. During the social hour the guests were, invited into the din ing room for refreshments, where Mrs. Finley presided at the punch bowl. Mrs. C. D. Coffey, Sr., Book Club Hostess Mrs. C. D. Coffey, Sr. enter tained for the members of the Friday Book club Friday after noon, and had as'extra guests Mrs. Harvey Church, of Ronda Mrs. Harold Riley, of St. Louis', Mo., and Mrs. Riley's mother, Mrs. Rosa Reeves, of this city. For entertainment Mrs. Gordon Finley gave a clever reading apd Mrs. Rllej rendered several pi ano numbers. Millers Creek Club Food Demonstration $he Millers Creek Home Dem onstration club held its regular monthly meeting at the homelof Mrs. A. S. Clark with Mrs. T. w. Hayes co-hostess, Thursday aft ernoon, May 21, with 23 members and one visitor present. Mrs. M. F. Bumgarner, presi dent of the club, and Mrs. W. El. Qalther had charge of the 'devo tion als and business session. Our club is making an all-out drive for the cancer fund. Mrs. C. H, M. A number of our members use freezer locker or have deep freezers and was In all a great help and interesting pro gram. We were sorry a number of our members were absent. Food Subject For Boomer Home Club The Boomer Home Demonstra tion club met with Mrs. Atwell German, with 18 members pres ent. The meeting was opened by singing and reading the club col lect. The roll call was answered by each member telling what they like to do best. Mrs. John Andrews, Mrs. Everett Griffin, Mrs. Atwell Ger man and Mrs. Earl German gave a report of the Spring Federa tion meeting at Elkin. Mrs. Earl German gave a re port of the chicken supper that was given for the church, making the sum o( $127.00. Every one enjoyed the supper very much. The demonstration was in charge of Miss Thompson, our new assistant home agent, who very ably discussed the seven basic foods and the Importance of a balanced diet. Delicious refreshments of cake, nuts( coffee, and punch were served by Mrs. Atwell Ger man and Mrs. J. E. Centennial Quartet In Series Appearances IWHW|W»WW*W*HWWW**WW*HWHMWWWW%W»M» The Centennial Quartet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Lat tre-Day Saints (Mormon) is in North Wilkesboro for a series of appearances this week. Composed of four young Eld ers of the church, the quartet is currently on tour giving pro grams commemorating the west ward movement of American pi oneers 100 years ago. In the picture, left to right are: front row—Hugh Erwin, Phoenix, Arizona; Serge Huff (director) > Springville, Utah; Bernard Tanner, Salt Lake City. Utah; back row—Robert Owens, Phoenix, Arizona; Kenneth No ble, Phoenix, Arizona. The group is managed and di rected by Elder Serge Huff, of Springville, Utah. All ot them left school work and employment to pledge two years to assigned church duties. They are among some 5,000 members of the faith represent ing it in missionary > work throughout the world. The quartet Is appearing here over station WKBC, and is alsp appearing before the public ad mission free in the City Hall Sat urday, June 4th at 7 p. m. and the Ballroom of the Carolina Restaurant June 3rd at 8 p. m. and several other groups featur ing religious, patriotic, novel and humorous programs. Formed last September, the quartet is touring in Virginia and North Carolina until June 9th.
