Mrs. Lester Harrold, who had been a patient at the Baptist iios pital in Winston-Salem, Has re turned to her home at Hays. Colonel and Mrs. A. L. Fletch er, of Raleigh, visited here Mon day with Colonel Fletcher's sis ter, Mrs. W. R. Absher. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mcintosh, of Washington, D. C., spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Ferguson, of Ferguson. Mr. A. T. Fairchlld, a well known citizen of Lewis Fork township, was a business visitor here Wednesday. Miss Lucille Chatman, of Win ston-Salem, is spending her vaca tion with Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Welch, of this city. Mr. Gordva Finley, Jr., student at Lees-MdWe College, Banner Elk, is now at-home for the sum mer with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Finley. 1 Mr. Charles McDonald Coffey,; ©f North Wilkesboro, was one of! 21 Davidson College students! who on Monday was awarded a j commission as second lieutenant in the United States Army re-1 serves. - | Mr. Jimmy Hethcock, student at Ffeiffer College, the past year "has arrived home to spend the summer with hla parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Hethcock. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Elledge, of Charleston, W. Va., spent the week-end here with their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Elledge and Mr. and Mrs. Lane Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. Rawley M. Baldock, of Roanoke, Va., spent the week-end with Mrs. Baldock's father, Mr. W. M. Duncan, of Wilkesboro. Miss Agnes Kenerly, student at Greensboro College, the past year, has arrived home for the summer to be with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Kenerly. Mr. Bill Craig, who was in school at Appalachian college at Boone during the past year, has accepted a position with radio station WKBC here. Miss Wanda Campbell, who had been a patient at the Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, returned here Sunday to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Campbell. Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Turner went to Georgia Military Acad emy at College Park, Ga., Mon day and brought back their son, Mr. Tommy Turner, and Mr. Leonard Oooke, who had been in school there. Leonard is the son of-Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Cooke, of this city. Mrs. R. M. Brame, Sr., spent Tuesday and Wednesday In Win ston-Salem visiting with her mo ther, Mrs. J. W. Hester, who cele brated her 89th birthday anni versary on Tuesday. A. R. Gray, III, and Jim Gray, sons of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Gray; Jr., of Wilkesboro, are recover ing from tonsil operations per formed last week at the Wilkes hospital. Mrs. J. C. Grayson has been spending a few days this week with her mother, Mrs. I«. D. Roope, of Nathans Creek, who is critically ill at the hospital at West Jefferson. Mr. and Mrs. Addison Himes, of Newport News, V^., arrtved Sunday to spend several days with Mrs. Himes' parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Mathis, of Wilkes boro, Route 2. Mrs. D. T. Trivette returned Sunday from Miami Beach, Fla., where she visited three weeks in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Kuenzel. Mrs. Kuenzel is her daughter. Mrs. A. H. Clark attended the graduating exercises at Woman's College in Greensboro Monday, where her niece, Miss Martha Starnes, of Forest City, was a member of the graduating class. Friends will be glad to learn that some improvement is shown in the condition of Mr. C. E. Hall, who has been confined to his home at Halls Mills with an attack of influenza. Mr. Dick Pruitt has returned to his home at Traphill after be ing in school at Oeorgia Military Academy at College Park, Ga. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anril Pruitt, went to College Park Monday and accompanied him home. .Mr. William <H. Gabriel, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gabriel, of this city, was graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from High Point College Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel and their daughters, Mrs. Wake Clark, Misses Nellie, Norma and Pattle Gabriel, all of this city, attend ed the graduating exercises. The younger Mr. Gabriel returned home with his people for the summer. Mr. and Mm. Francis Taylor, Miss Mary Dnnlap, Mr. William Barnhardt, ana Miss Mary El more Flnley, all of Winston-Sal em, were visitors here during the week-end with Miss Finley's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Pin ley, and with her aunts, Misses Lucy and Grace Flnley. Mr. Tom Jenrette, who was a patient at the Wilkes hospital for several days following a se vere injury to his right eye, re turned to his home Saturday. Friends are glad to know that he is now much better. Mr. Jenrette is manager of the Wilkes Cham ber of Commerce. Mr. and Mrs. C. Don Coffey, Jr., have as their guests for a few days this week Dr. and Mrs. Flynn Long and son, Mr. Flynn Long, Jr., all of Austin, Texas. Flynn, Jr., who was a member of the graduating class at Davidson College, hao visited frequently here in the Coffey home. Mrs. w. K. ADsner spent Sun day in Charlotte visiting with Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Lott, both of whom are patients at the Mercy hospital. Mrs. Lott, daughter of Mrs. Absher, is getting along nicely now following an opera tion, but the condition of Mr. Lott remains about the same. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. McNeill spent last Wednesday in Ra leigh. Their daughter, Miss Elizabeth McNeill, who has been a student at Meredith College for the past year, returned home with them. Miss McNeill recent ly won a blue ribbon in the Horsemanship Show, which is an annual event of the college. Mr. and Mrs. Rufus B. Church and son, Dan, spent the week-end at Wake Forest College attend ing the commencement exercises, where the Churches' older son, Mr. Ralph Church, was a mem ber of the graduating class. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Church and young son, Bruce, also Miss Bet ty Gray Church, a student.at the college, returned home with them. Miss Church will be here for the summer but Mr. and Mrs. RAlph Church will return to the college next week, where Mrs. Church, who will graduate in August, will attend summer school. MIbb Ruth McNeill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn McNeill, of this city, was one among the two hundred and fifty graduat ing Monday from Mary Washing ton College of the University of Virginia at Fredericksburg, Va. 'Miss Mctyeill, who was on thb dean's list for the past semester, received a Bachelor of Arts de gree with a major In business; economics. Mr. and Mrs. McNeill left Friday to attend the com mencement exercises, Mr. Mc Neill returning home Tuesday. Mrs. McNeill and Ruth went on up to Brldgewater, Mass., for an | extended visit in the home of Mrs. McNeill's sister, Mrs. Luth er Farnum, who came down to Fredericksburg to see her ntooe graduate. Others coming down with Mrs. Farnum for the com mencement were her son, Mr. Robert Farnum, and Miss Myra Howes.
