Miss Madge Lewis, a graduate student of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Berke ley, California, is spending the month of June with friends in Wilkes county, where she was Baptist associational missionary before entering the seminary in California. Mr. Jimmy Anderson, Jr., who will graduate from the John B. Stetson University in Florida In August, is visiting here this week in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Triplett will return to their home at Gainesville, Oa., Friday after spending a week with relatives in Wilkes. Mrs. Triplett is the former Miss Grace Dearman. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Walker, of Blkin and Columbia, S. C., left Sunday to attend funeral service Tuesday in Alexandria, Ind., foi Mr. Walker's granddaughter, who died Sunday morning. Mrs. Margaret Gray returned to her home on Wilkesboro route two last Thursday from Char lotte Memorial Hospital, where she underwent a throat operation two weeks ago. Mrs. J. C. Critcher, Jr. and son, Laxton, of Asheville, visit ed in the home of her dister, Mrs. Paul J. Vestal, and Mr. Vestal, a few days the first of this week. Miss Jane Carter, who had been in school at Sweet Briar College, Sweet Briar, Va., arriv ed Sunday to spend the summer with her mother, Mrs. D. J. Car ter. Miss Nancy Felts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Felts, of this city, is home from Mars Hill College for a few days' vacation. Gaither, also of Washlngt%n, who has been visiting relatives here. Miss Edythe Brooks, formerly of Wilmington, Delaware, has been spending some time with her parents prior to her marriage to Mr. D. S. Cole of White ville, was announced this week as the winner of both local and State scholarships in the Civitan Citizenship Essay Contest. By virtue of the State honor, ithe essay of the 17-year-old Whiteville High School senior was automatically entered in competition for the Civitan In ternational Scholarship worth $500. L. A. Bruton, district secre tary of North Carolina Civitans who is a resident of Whiteville, presented Miss Cole the $125 scholarship given by the White ville Civitan Club and the $100 scholarship awarded as tho prize in the State-wide competi tion.
