Robert Ward, of Win ston-Salem, visited here Friday In the home of his sister, Mrs A. L. Lippard. Mr. Nat Sosnik, owner of Jean's Dress Shoppe, is in New York City this week buying fall and winter merchandise. Attorney W. H. McElwee was in Boone today appearing in a case in Watauga county superior qpurt. ' Miss Elizabeth McNeill, adult program director of the Y. W. C. A. at Greenville, S. C., spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. McNeill. Mr. Royall Eudaily, student of State College, Raleigh, is home for the summer with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Eudaily, at Millers Creek. A daughter, Judy Carol, was born June 10 at Davis hospital in Statesville to Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Combs, of North Wil kesboro route three. Mr. and Mrs. Richard John ston and two young sons, Billy and Dicky, spent several days during the week-end at Myrtle Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Stout and young son, Johnny, spent the week-end at Sanford with Mrs. Stout's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Dalrymple. Mr. W. C. Bentley suffered a stroke Friday and is now a pa Prient at Davis hospital in States ▼ille. Some improvement was re ported in his condition today. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Baity have returned from a week's vacation at Morehead City. There sons, Johnnie and Jimmie, are spend ing several days at Camp More Jfead. Miss Mary Qage Barber has returned to the Appalachian State Teachers College at Boone to resume her work there as a high school faculty member in the Training School for eight weeks. She is librarian and in structor in library science. Mr. Robert A. Miskelly, who had been connected with the ad vertising department of The Journal-Patriot, today began his duties as traveling representative of C. and B. Paper company, of North Wilkesboro, in Northwest ern North Carolina. Clinton J. Kilby, , machinist's mate, third class, USN, son of Mrs. Annie E. Kilby of Moravian Palls, ahd John B. Ferguson, sea man, son of Mrs. Oma Ferguson, of Boomer, have been on a ten day visit to Naples, Italy, as crew members of the destroyer TJSS — Vesole, enabling them to relax * after intensive training with the Sixth Task Fleet in the Medi terranean. Visits to Rome plus tours of nearby Pompeii and the Isle of Capri were on the liberty schedule. -J Arch L. Wilson,' seaman, URNi, son of Mrs. A. L. Wilson of Wilkesboro, has been on a ten-day visit to Naples, Italy, as a crew member of the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea, enabling him to relax after intensive training with the Sixth Task Fleet in the Medi terranean. Visits to Rome plus tours of nearby Pompeii aid the Isle of Capri were un the liberty schedule. Mr. and Mrs. Julius C. Hub bard and sons, Bud^v and John, returned last pight from a sever-' al days' trip to Bardsto «vn and Louisville, Ky. They were ac companied home by Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard's daughter, Miss Nell Hubbard, who has a secretarial position in Louisville, and Mrs. Hubbard's niece, Miss Helen White. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Best, of Fayettville, Mrs. Linda Stark, of Washington, D. C., and Lester Atwood Gudger, of Patuxent Riv er, Md., spent Father's Day with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Gudger. Lester Atwood Gudger is an aviation mechanic in the navy and has been assigned to military air transport service over the Atlantic. He will fly to Germany Wednesday. Mr. Malcolm Gambill, son of Attorney and Mrs. Robert M. Gambill, of Wilkesboro, has re turned home from Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachus etts, where he graduated last | week. Malcolm will enter Yale University next September where he has been awarded a scholar ship. He visited his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Brice B. Gambill, in New York City be fore returning home. The visitors plan to be here two weeks. Dr. and Mrs. H. G. Allen and T. B. Bixon and family, all of Winston-Salem, left this week for a trip that will Include visits to the West, Mexico, the Pacific Northwest, Canada and Alaska. During the trip the group will inspect our missionary work in Mexico and Alaska. Dr. Allen is superintendent of the Winston Salem District. Mr. Djxson is superintendent of the Centenary church school.—(North Carolina Christian Advocate). Dr. Allen is a former pastor of the North Wilkesboro v First Methodist church. Mrs. George B. Ward of Gull ford College has as guests her daughter, Mrs. Robert C. Morrow and children, Roderick and Mar garet Eloise of North Wilkes boro, who have been here for several days and will leave to morrow, and another daughter, Mrs. George H. Jennings, Jr., and children, George, III, and Martha White of Portsmouth, Va., who arrived yesterday for two weeks. A son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert J.
