Leon Postove, a pitching vet eran of the North State League, was signed Tuesday, Tal J. Pear son, club president, announced, and the big right hander Joined the club Wednesday. Postove was obtained from the Hickory club, where he had a very cred itable record. Last year he won 11 and lost 7, and his earned run average was 3.86. A new rookie pitcher is Carl Gentry, rangy right hander who graduated from Sparta high school several days ago. In high school baseball he pitched more than a dozen games and lOBt on ly two. He has also pitched In the Grayson semi-pro league for the Sparta team. Carl is 19 years ot age, is 6-1 tall and tips the scales at 190. He had beep work ing out with the Flashers earlier this week and «igned Tuesday. The sagging pitching staff during the past two weeks has been the principal problem of Manager Tom Daddino, along with Injuries to key players. Bill i Weston, a winning rookie pitch er, was forced to quit because o*. an ailing back muscle. Shortstop Bob Winkelspect, the league's leader in his position, is out be cause of a spike wound. Catcher Arnold Davis and Doug Shores, third sack'er, are not in top form because of sorel" bruised hands. Johnny Mercak, catcher, remains out w)ith a broken leg and ankle injury. Jack Cooper was out ten days with an ankle injury. Tom Black has been out of the lineup with an attack of tongllitis. Airy at Wytheville. 30 Games To Be Played By Teams In Jaycee Circuit Wilkes County baseball league will officially open the 1949 sea son Saturday night, June 25, under auspices of the Wilkes Junior Chamber of Commerce. J. C. Williams is directing the league, which will be composed of six teams: Millers Creek. Walsh's Lumber company, Boom er, Fairplains, Pores Knob and Moravian Falls. The league will play a 30 game schedule in Memorial Park in North Wllkesboro, with games at eight p. m. on dates when the park will not be in use by the Flashers of the Blue Ridge League. The season will be divided in to two halves, with the winner of the first playing the last half winner for the county league championship in early Septem ber. Following is the complete schedule, with the first named team for each date being desig nated as the "home team" in the park: June 25—Millers Creek versus Fairplains. Time trials will begin at one p. m. with the first race at two o'clock. The four star race will be sanctioned by the American Mo torcycle Association.
