Meets The Women's Division of Christian Service of Millers Creek met Thursday night, June 16th, at the home of Mrs. James Poster. Mrs. H. D. Caudlll, Jr., con ducted an interesting program on Africa and Its progress. After the program and busi ness session, delicious refresh ments were served by the hostess and a recreation period of games was enjoyed by the members present. TJie July meeting is scheduled to be with Mrs. Dewey Caudill at Millers Creek. Miss Faw Honors Two Brides-Elect Miss Corinne Faw was hostess at an informal tea at her home on Sixth Street Saturday after-! tooon to compliment two brides elect of the summer, Miss Billiej Barnes, who is to wed this month j Livingston Johnson, of Winston-1 Salem; and Miss Mary Gage Barber, to wed Joseph Clements in mid-August. Around twenty guests assembled at four, o'clock and during the hour Miss Faw was assisted in serving refresh ments by Mrs. O. C. Cooke-Foster Vows Are Solemnized Miss Carolyn June Cooke, daughter of Mrs. Pearl Cooke, of Purlear, became the bride of Ivan G. Foster, of Champion, son, of Mr. and Mrs. Taft Poster, on Tuesday, June 14, at the home of the groom's parents. The sin gle ring ceremony was perform ed by Rev. Latt Beshears, of Hickory. The bride and groom entered together unattended. The bride wore a white taffetta street length dress, with white acces sories. Her corsage was of Amer ican Beauty roses. ( After the ceremony the bridal couple left for ,a wedding trip to unannounced points. For travel the bride changed to a pink sum mer suit, dressmaker style, with brown accessories. Upon their re turn they will be at home at Champion, where the groom is engaged in farming and poultry business. The bride graduated this June from the Mount Pleas ant high school. Mrs. Cooke, mother of the bride, wore a dress of chartreuse crepe with white accessories, and a corsage of briarcliff roses. Mrs. Foster, mother of the groom, had a dress'of dusty rose crepe with black accessories, and a corsage ;of matching briarcliff roses. • Brooks-Chamblee Vows Saturday Miss Edythe Marie Brooks, of Raleigh and Wilkesboro, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Claud O. Brooks, Wilkesboro, Route One, and Douglas Scales Chamblee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland S. Chamblee, Zebulon, were mar ried in a candlelight ceremony on Saturday afternoon at 5:30 o'clock in the Edenton Street Methodist church in Raleigh. The tows were spoken before Dr, Howard P. Powell, pastor. Wedding music was played by Mrs. William D. Miller, organist. The church was decorated with palms, fern, floor baskets of white .gladioli and candelabra with cathedral tapers. The bride, given in marriage by her brother, C. C. Brooks, Jr., of Wilkesboro, wore a dress of ashes of rose crepe fashioned with a fitted bodice with tiny self-covered buttons to the waist line and a softly draped skirt. Her hat was of matching braided straw with a draped veil of il lusion, and she carried a bou quet of white carnations center ed with a white orchid. The bride's only attendant was her sister, Miss Dorothy Brooks of Wilkesboro. She wore a dress of powder blue crepe with match ing straw hat similar to the bride's, and carried a bouquet of pink carnations. Graham V. Chamblee, Denbigh, Virginia, was best man for his brother. Ushers were R. Philip Upchurch of Raleigh and L. Au brey Goodson of Washington, D. C. The bride's mother wore a dress of navy blue crepe with matching straw hat. The groom's mother also chose a navy blue costume. Both wore corsages of purple orctids. Immediately after the cere mony, a reception was held in the church parlor. For traveling, the bride wore a navy blue bolero suit with white accessories and the orchid from her bridal bouquet. After a motor trip through western North Carolina, Mr. and Mrs. Chamblee will make their home in Raleigh. Mrs. Chamblee is a graduate of Millers Creek High School and attended Draughon's Business. College in Winston-Salem. Prior to her marriage, she held a po sition with the du Pont Experi mental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. Mr. Chamblee, who is a mem ber of the research staff of the Agronomy Department at N. C. State College, is a graduate of State College and recently receiv ed a Ph.D. degree In agronomy from Iowa State College. Eudaily-Watts Vows Are Spoken Miss Frances Budaily, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Budaily, of Millers Creek, and Mr. Clay Watts, son of Mrs. Pin ley Watts and the late Rev. Pin ley Watts, of Purlear, were mar ried June 10 in Friendship Meth odist church, by the pastor, Rev. J. R. Short. Mrs. Watts was educated at North Wilkesboro high school ind, Appalachian State Teachers College, Boone, N. C. She is now with the Northwestern Bank of North Wilkesboro. Mr. Watts received his educa tion at Millers Creek high school and Mars Hill College. He Is now employed by radio station WKBC as advertising manager. They will make their home at Boonville. Miss McNeill Hostess At Coffee Hour The coffee hour given by Miss Elizabeth' McNeill at her home on Ninth Street Monday morning was a. courtesy for Misses Mary Lee Gardner, Billie Barnes, Bet ty Gray Church, and Jo Lassiter. Crystal was honor gifts for Miss Barnes, bride-elect of Livingston Johnson, Winston-Salem; and Miss Lassiter, bride-elect of Har- j old Sturdivant, Wilkesboro; and china was given to Miss Gardner, j bride-elect of Don Culler, Wilkes boro; and Miss Church, bride elect of Walter Morphis, Lexing ton. Each of the honorees were presented corsages. During the hour from nine to ten the hostess was assisted by her mother, Mrs. M. B. McNeill, in serving coffee and fancy pastries.
