Barnett, a promi nent citizen of the Hendrix com munity, was a business visitor here Friday. Miss Barbara Ann Greene, of Fairplains, has been spending a few days with her aunt, Mrs. Flla Proffit, of Purlear. Miss Beatrice Pearson, who is a patient at the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, is reported as slowly improving. , Little Miss Carolyn Johnson returned to Lenoir today after spending several days with her grandmother, Mrs. R. S. Shoaf. R!ev. James M. Hayes, of Winston-Salem, visited relatives and friends in the Wilkesboros and other parts of the county last week. Mr. Henry Hayes, who has been in Merchant Marine service in the African area, has been spending a few days at his home near this city. Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Graham, of Edinburg, Texas, are spending a week with relatives and friends in the eastern part of Wilkes county. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bum garner and son, Danny, and Mrs. Peggy B. Johnston returned Sun day from spending several days at Virginia Beach. Mr. Jay Anderson, who has a position with the Hammond Or gan Company in South Carolina, is making his headquarters at Anderson, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pearson, of St. Petersburg, Fla., are here visiting with Mr. Pearson's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Rom H. Pear son, and other relatives. Mrs. W. C. Thompson, of Charlotte, is visiting here this week in the home of Miss Ruby Blackburn. Mrs. Thompson is the former Miss Janie McDlarmid, of this city. Misses Sallie and Lynne Boren, of Greensboro, spent last week as guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Carter. Mr. Orten Bo^en, their father, came here Sunday and accompanied them home. Miss Lou Pennell returned the first of the week to Tallahassee, Fla., where she holds a position with the Florida State Univers ity after spending several days at Moravian Falls with her par ents, Mr. &T\d Mrs. S. P. Pennell. Rev. William P. Combs, w.lo has been in training in personal counseling and pastoral psychol ogy at the Concord State Hospit al in Concord, N. H., Is at home here now with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Gilbert R. Combs. Mrs. Douglas Shores and chil dren, Boyd Dean, Douglas, Jr., and Janice moved Friday from Greensboro to North Wilkesboro to make their home with Mr. Shores, who plays third base for the North Wilkesboro baseball club. Capt. Domer Huffman and family have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Eller at Millers Creek, Mrs. Josie Huffman at Cricket and relatives and friends in this city. Capt. Huffman has been stationed - at Camp Camp bell, Ky., for the past two years. Dr. John Bumgarner has ac cepted a position on the medical staff of Western North Carolina Sanitorium atx Black Mountain and will begin his duties there July 1. Dr. Bumgarner is a son of Rev. and Mrs. J. L. A. Biyn garner, of Millers Creek. Mr. and Mrs. Goddard, of Falls Church, Va., are visiting in. the home of Mrs. Goddard's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Bumgarner. Also visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bum garner are Mr. Goddard's moth er, Mrs. Sarah Goddard, of Win chester, Va., and Miss Clara Bumgarner, of Arlington, Va. Mrs. A. R'. Gray, Sr., has had in her home as recent visitors, Miss Helen Bostic and brother, Mr. Tom Bostic, both of Greens boro, and three nieces of Mrs. Gray, Miss Minnie Jones, Rich mond, Va., Mrs. Ellis Snead and Miss Elsie Omohunero, both of Fork Union, Va. Mrs. J. C. Meadows, of Mar tinsville, Va., is spending her vacation at Pores Knob with Mr. ' and Mrs. R. C. Meadows and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Meadows. Mrs Meadows was accompanied to Pores Knob last week-end by her husband, Mr. Meadows, who returned home Thursday. Denver M. Stoker, airman ap prentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stoker'of Route 1, North Wilkesboro, N. C., has completed his recruit training at the Naval Training Center, San Diego, Calif. Stoker entered the Naval service on March 15, 1949, at Raleigh, N. C. Before entering the Navy he attended North Wil kesboro high school. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Schaefer, of Marllnton, West Virginia, and their sons and daughter-in-law, Mr. Bob Schaefer, of Washing ton, D. C., and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schaefer, spent several days • here during the week-end with friends. The younger Mr. and Mrs. Schaefer, who came here from Los Angeles, Cali fornia, where they had been for two years, went on to Marllnton with their parent* for a visit be fore going on to Parkersburg, West Virginia, to make their home. The guests from North Wilkesboro included Miss Barnes, Misses Grace Frank Kilby, Corinne Faw, Nellie and Margie Gabriel. Mrs. J. C. Meadows Feted At Rook Party Mrs. Earl Meadows entertained at a small rook party at her home at Pores Knob Tuesday after noon as a courtesy to her sister in-law, Mrs. J. C. Meadows, of Martinsville, Va., who is spend ing her vacation in the Meadows home. Two tables were placed op the lawn for rook, and at the be ginning of play the hostess sewad light refreshments. Mrs. W. C. Hendren won the top score prize, and the honbree was remembered with a gift. Home Made Ice Cream Supper Pores Knob i The Pores Knob Home Demon stration clujb is sponsoring an old time Hpme made ice cream supper at the Pores Knob Com munity House for the community folk on Saturday evening, July 2nd, beginning at 7 o'clock. All families of the community are invited to bring some milk, eggs, or sugar and a freezer if they have one and come out for the evening.
