Misses Mary Lee Gardner, Billie Barnes, Marie Eller, Lucille Cas ey, Betty Gray Church, and Jo Lasslter, Mrs. Charles Winters entertained at a lovely card par ty at the-home ot her mother, Mrs. Ivey Moore, on Kensington Drive Thursday evening. All the honorees received from Mrs. Winters either silver or china in their chosen patterns. Queen Anne's lace, dyed in various colors, formed an un usual setting for the players at five tables of bridge and rook. In serving a dessert course to the guests on arrival Mrs. Wint ers was assisted by her mother, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Mary Moore Hlx, and Mrs. Russell G. Hodges. High and low score prizes in bridge went to Miss Mary El more Finley and Miss Casey, while In rook the winner for top score prize was Mrs. J. D. Moore, Sr. Miss Myrtle Norris Speaks Vows With Lawrence Hunt In a quiet eeremony solemniz ed in the chapel of the First Methodist church Saturday morn ing, June 25, Miss Myrtle Norris became the bride of Lawrence Hunt, of North Wilkesboro. The bride is the only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Norris, of this city, and the groom is the only son of Stokes S'. Hunt, also of North Wilkesboro, and the late Mrs. Hunt. Dr. Gilbert R. Combs, pastor of the church, heard the vows at 10 o'clock using the ring cere mony. x The bride wore a pastel blue eyelet dress of organdy, match ing accessories, and a white orch id. Immediately following the ceremony the couple left for a wedding trip in Western North Carolina, and upon their return will be at home in North Wil kesboro. DR. J. H. Gladioli and snapdragons, in pastel colors, made a colorful setting for ap proximately twenty guests. Miss Peggy Nichols assisted in the en tertainment which consisted of games, contests, and the dressing of miniature brides. The honoree received a lovely shower of gifts. The hostess served tempting re freshmeatp during the evening. Final prenuptial courtesy for Miss Eller and Mr. Davis was the cake-cutting party given on Saturday evening by Miss Eller's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Monroe Eller, at their home fol lowing the rehearsal. Guests, numbering around forty, includ ed members of the wedding par ty, relatives, and out of town guests, and a few close friends. A green and white color motif was predominant in the dining room while elsewhere about the home bouquets of mixed flowers were used. A three-tiered wed ding cake, topped with a minia ture bride and groom, centered the dining table, sprea'd with a white cutwork cloth and lighted with white candles. The bridal couple cut the first slice of cake, after which it was finished by Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Beshears. Miss Hilda Hendren poured punch and assisting with the serving were Mrs. Charlie Gil reath, Miss Claire Lockhart, and Miss Vivian McNeill. They are everything a summer suit needs to be ex cept expensive.—1The Goodwill Store, Coiet Dyer. 7-4-2t Miss Beth Jones Is Honored At Party * Miss Beth Jones, who goes to Wadesboro to begin her duties there the first of July as direc tor of Christian Education in the First Baptist church, was honored Thursday evening at a party 'given by Mrs. Louis Irvin at her home on Sixth Street. Three tables were arranged for rook against a background of roses, sweet peas, and magnolia foliage. Prizes in the game were awarded to Mrs. Tam Hutchin son for high score and to Miss Ruby Kilby for low score. Re freshments were served during the evening. Miss Jones, who re ceived from the hostess a gar denia corsage, and Mrs. John Redman were remembered with lingerie. Mrs. Redmon goes to Leaksville in the near future to make her home. Odrie Delia Walsh Weds Carl Feight Miss Ordie Walsh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. S. Walsh, of North Wilkesboro, Route 1, and Carl E. Feight, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Feight, of Belpre, Ohio, exchanged marriage vows in the Grenta Green wedding chapel at Las Vegas, Nevada, June 9th, at 9 a. m. was the Rev. Frank Carter, was the Rev. Frnak Carter. The bride is a graduate of the Millers Creek high school and attended Appalachian State Teachers College at Boone. She is now employed by Yards and Docks Supply Office at Port Hueneme, Calif. Mr. Feight is a graduate of -Belpre high school and served with the Navy in the South Pa cific. He is now employed by the Investigation Department of the Navy Base, Port Hueneme, Calif. Following their honeymoon the couple will make their home in Port Hueneme, Calif. Mrs. Watts Feted At Miscellaneous Shower, Thursday Mrs. Haggle Paw and Mrs. Herbert Davis entertained Thurs day evening at a miscellaneous shower at the Faw home at Millers Creek honoring Mrs. Clay Watts, who before her mar riage on June 10 was Miss Fran ces Eudaily, also of Millers Creek. The bride, who received a gardenia corsage from the hos tesses, was showered with many lovely gifts. During the eyening games and contests, in which prizes were awarded, were en joyed. County Officials Score Communists Blowing Rock, £une 27.—At its annual convention held last week at Blowing Rock the State Association of County Commis sioners adopted resolutions in-J volving communism and federal jurisdiction over privately-own ed forest land. The Communist resolution em phasized that American freedom was intended only for loyal citi zens and not for those who would destroy this freedom. It stated that Communist activities were subversive and therefore any known Communist school teachers should be removed by the trustees of the state schools. The forestry resolution object ed to a Senate bill which would give the secretary of agriculture jurisdiction over privately owned forest land, and urged that a hearing be arranged before the Committee on Agriculture and Forestry in an effort to defeat the bill in committee before it reaches Congress.
