MISS MAM1B ROCKWELL — EDITOft Miss Billie Barnes Honored At Tea Mrs. Winfield Scott Fetcher and her daughter, Mrs. Robert Parks Church, both of Purlear, were hostesses at a lovely tea, In which the rainbow colors were emphasised, at the Woman's clubhouse on Trogdon street Friday afternoon honoring their niece and cousin, Miss Billie Barnes, who is to wed on June 28 Livingston Johnson, of Win ston-Salem. Approximately 150 gueets called between the hours of 3:30-5:30 to greet the hon oree and enjoy the gracious hos pitality of the hostesses. Mrs. C. S. Sink welcomed the callers at the door and Mrs. Boyd Stout presented them to the receiving line, composed of the two hostesses, the honoree, Mrs. Tal Barnes, mother of the bride-elect; Mrs. R. T. McNiel, "Mrs. Wingate Johnson, Miss Catherine Johnson, mother and sister of the groom-elect, «and Mrs. James M. Hayes, all three from Winston-Salem, and Mrs. A. F. Kilby. Mrs. Harold Burke directed to punch bowl where Mrs. D. T. Trivette, assisted by Miss Annie Laurie Canter -and Mrs. Roy Forehand, poured punch. Those helping with the serving were Mrs. Catherine Carrington, Mrs. Charles Winters, Mrs. Henry Moore, Misses Clara Lee Watts, Beth Jones, and Grace Frank Kilby. Piano music was rendered during the tea hours by Mrs. L. M. Nelson, Mrs. Robert Gibbs, Miss Ellen Robinson, and Miss Lois Scroggs. Mrs. Paul Harvel, Jr., and Mrs. C. C. Faw, Jr., were in charge of the bride's register. Others assisting the hos tesses were Mesdames J. D. Moore, Sr., Guy Lillard, Presley Myers, Ivey Moore, and Miss Ruby Blackburn. Goodbyes were spoken to Mrs. F. C. Forester and Mrs. C. G. Poindexter. Also attending the tea from Winston^Salem were Mrs. J. Bruce Futrell and Mrs. J. M. Kesler. SUPPORT THE Y. M. C. A. Ash And Craig Vows Exchanged Statesville, June 21.—Broad Street Methodist church was scene of the wedding Saturday afternoon, June 11, of Mrs. Mary Davis Ash, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Lawson Davis of Statesville, and James Avery Craig, Jr., of Winston-Salem and Hickory, son of Mr. and Mm. James Avery Craig of Hickory. Rev. Charles P. Bowles, pastor, conducted the ceremony. The bride was escorted by her brother, Cadet Louis M. Davis of West Point, N. Y., and attended by her sister, Mrs. Fred Hinton of Statesville, matron of honor, and by two bridesmaids, Mrs. Lewis Watson of Lenoir and Miss Frances Matthews of Win ston-Salem. Mr. Craig had his brother, P6well Craig, as best man. Ushers were John C. Davis of Winston-Salem and Cadet Louis M. Davis of West Point, the bride's brothers, Emory Mc Call, of Lenoir and Weston P Hatfield, Jr., of Winston-Salem Music was by Miss Margaret Anderson of North Wilkesborp, cousin of the bride, soloist, and Mrs. Harold R. Wilson, organist. Mrs. Craig attended Mitchell College in Statesville. She is sec retary to Dallace McLennan, at torney in Winston-Salem. Mr. Craig attended Lenoir Rhyne College, Hickory, and North Carolina State College, Raleigh. Senior Woman's Club Has Successful Year To close a most successful year for the North Wllkesboro Senior Woman's club the June meeting was held Monday after noon at the home of Mrs. H. G Duncan with Mesdames J. S. Zim merman, M. B. McNeill, W. F. Gaddy, R. S. Gibbs, Jr., and Der mont Smith as associate hostess es. Mrs. Jack Swofford, pro gram chairman presented Dr. F. 0. .Hubbard, who spoke to the group about the cancer clinic be ing held each Tuesday morning in Wllkesboro. Mrs. Ivey Moore, the president, occupied the chair for the busi ness session during which time the club Toted as one of its pro jects for next year to give $100 to some worthy college student. The committee for the new year book was appointed, and this book will be ready for distribu tion at the next meeting which will be in September. The grounds committee, under the leadership of Mrs. Swofford, has been very active during the year, and the clubhouse under the supervision of Mrs. W. F. Gaddy, has been thoroughly cleaned for the summer. For Tues day evening the guests included members of the Wilabri bridge club and two brides-elects, Miss es Mary Lee Gardner and Billie Barnes, both of whom were given china. Mrs. E. H. Fritts, of Har rimari", Tenn., who is here visit ing in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Culler, was^ remembered with a gift. Bridge was played at four tables, being flolowed by a sal ad course. Top score prize for the club members was won by Mrs. Bob Damschroder and for the visitors by Mrs. Johnson Sanders. Mrs. Ray Kennedy re ceived the bingo award. For Wednesday afternoon Mrs. Pearson had guests again for four tables of bridge, and hon ored another bride-elect, Miss Betty Gray Church, who received china and a corsage from the hostess. Mrs. Charles Winters, the former Miss Carolyn Moore, was also presented with a gift. A dessert course was served at the beginning of play, and for each party a color note of green and white was emphasized in the decorations and refresh ments. High and second high score prizes were won by Mrs. Presley Myers and Mrs. Glenn Green. — o The range system of growing turkeys is more practical for North Carolina commercial grow ers since grazing crops may be produced all months of the year, thus reducing the feed cost. First Methodist Church Vacation Bible School The 'Daily Vacation Bible School of the North Wilkesboro First Methodist church, which had been in session for two weeks, came to a successful close on Friday morning. Miss Jo Lassiter, director of religious education of the church and general superintendent of the school, was ably assisted by a number of workers. Miss Norma Gabriel served as secretary. Miss Lassiter worked in the junior department and other staff members were Mrs. P. W. Eshelman and Miss Patsy^Pope. Other instructors, part or all the time were, for primary depart ment, Mrs. Cecil Hauss, Nellie Gabriel, Jo Ann Byers, Betsy Doughton, and Betty Lou Mc Neill, and for the beginners de partment, Margaret Anderson, Agnes Kenerly, Donna Smith, Margie Kenerly, Nell Gwyn Brame, Carolyn Deans, and Mrs. Hampton McNeill. Out of an enrollment of sixty eight children, certificates were presented to forty-seven. During the school an offering of $20.00 was received which will be used [n sending Care Packages for re lief. Miss Betty Lou Foster Given Linen Shower Miss Betty Lou Foster, whose engagement to Frederick Gaddy has been announced, was honor Bd at a linen shower Thursday evening given by Miss Geraldine Gaddy at her home in Finley Park. Miss Jacqueline Knott, of Kinston, houseguest of Miss Margaret Ann Hutchens, received a gift from the hostess. The twenty-five guests, served a buf fet supper at seven o'clock, found seats at small tables placed a bout the rooms. Green and white bouquets centered the ta-| bias, a bridal doll was center piece for the dining table, and on the mantle was a green and white heart bearing a miniature bride and groom. A, number of cards were given to the honoree, who is to be married in August, .which directed her on a treasure hunt for her gifts. Later in the evening contract rummy was played for awhile.
