Foust and Mrs. Irvine Smith left last night for New York City where Friday ______ they are to sail on the Nieuw Am sterdam for The Netherlands and a three-week attendance on the Institute of World Studies being sponsored at the University of Amsterdam by several universi ties. Among the extra-curricular events planned for the Institute are receptions at the Amsterdam Town Hall ahd at the home of the university president. While in Amsterdam, Mrs. Smith hopes to fly to Sweden for ,a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Lindahl, who were here last summer with Mr. Lindahl's un cles, Dr. C. I. Carlson and A. B. Carlson. Aftef the institute is over Mrs. Foust and Mrs. Smith will tour the Continent and England be fore sailing from Rotterdam, The Netherlands, on the S. S. Veen dam. Cullen-Finley Vows Are Said In Portsmouth Portsmouth, Va. — The mar riage of Miss Hannah Steven! Finley, daughter of Mr. ant Mrs. William Walter Finley, ol Free Union, to Benjamin Thom as Cullen, Jr., son of Mr. anl Mrs. Benjamin T. Cullen, ol Portsmouth, took place Saturday afternoon, June 18, at four o' clock in the Park View Metho diet church, Portsmouth, witl the Rey. Joseph T. Allen offi elating. Herbert Stewart played th< wedding music, and R'owlan< Ellis sang "O Promise Me'', an< "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life". A quartet composed of Rowland El lis, Charles Lane, Miss Edn» Fanney, and Miss Grace Davis sang "The Lord's Prayer". The bride was given in mar riage by her father. She wore i wedding gown of candlelight sat in made with lace yoke, lonj sleeves pointed over the hands and the gathered skirt which ex tended from a tight-fitting bod ice and formed a sweeping train Her full-length veil of illusioi was arranged with white orchldi and showered with stephanotls Mrs. John W. Wilson, of Rich Imond, matron of honor, wore s gown of Nile green marquisette over taffeta, and the bridemaids Mrs. Ted Folger, of Richmond, and Mrs. Claude Sykes, of Ports mouth, were dressed in lavender marquisette over taffeta. The bridegroom had his fath er as best man. The ushers were Malcolm Finley, of Chicago, Rob ert Cullen, Claude Sykes and Reid Edwards, of Portsmouth. There was a reception after the ceremony. Later the couple left for a wedding trip to western North Carolina, after which they will reside at the University of Virginia. The bride traveled in a biege linen suit with brown ac cessories and a white orchid cor sage. Mrs. J. H. Miller, Sr. Is Socjety Hostess The July meeting of the Wo nam's Society of Christian Serv ice of the Wilkesboro Methodist church was held Tuesday after noon at the home of Mrs. W. W. Miller, Sr., with a large number of the members attending. Mrs. A. R. Gray, Sr., led the devotions and Mrs. Julius C. Hubbard gave the program on "U", and the United Nations''. Mrs. W. M. De Berry, the president, was in charge of the business session. Refreshments were enjoyed dur ing the social hour that follow ed the meeting. Bride-Elect, Visitor Honored At Party Miss Margaret Ann Hutchens and Miss Peggy Jean Sebastian were hostesses at a Coca-Cola party at the Hutchens home on E Street Thursday afternoon honoring Miss Hutchen's house guest, Miss Jacqueline Knott, of ' Kinston; and Miss Betty Lou Foster, bride elect of July. Miss Foster, who is to be married July 16 in the First Baptist church to Frederick Gaddy, of this city, was given china, Miss Knott was remembered with a gift, and also Miss Libby Bller, of Upper Darby, Pa., who is here visiting with relatives. The guests came at 5:30 o' clock for an informal hour and during the time were served tempting refreshments by the hostesses. Mixed garden flowers formed a colorful background for the young group of girls. Mrs. Floyd Woodward Entertains Her Club Mrs. Floyd Woodward enter tained for the members of the Sans Soucl club at her home on E street Thursday evening and a few additional guests. A des sert course was served at the be ginning of the bridge game play ed at two tables, the hostess be ing assisted by her two daugh ters, Patricia and Gail Wood ward. Winners o^ the high and second high1 score prizes were Mrs. Boyd Stout and Mrs. M. B. McNeill. A special guest of the club was Mrs. Woodward's moth er, Mrs. Willis, of St. Paul, who wa^ visiting in the Woodward home.
