OCIAL NEWS* Clubs, Parties, Church Activities, Etc — - mrrwt Mrs. Johnson J. Hayes And Two Daughters Hold Open House Mr*. Johnson J. Hayes and her daughters, Mrs. Marion El liott and 'Miss Rebecca Hayes, held an open house on Thursday afternoon, July 14th, at the North Wilkesboro Woman's club house on Trogdon Street. A large number of guests called between the hours of 3:30 to 6:00 o' clock to enjoy the gracious hos pitality of the hostesses and to greet another daughter of Mrs. Hayes, Mrs. J. Thor Wanless, of Springfield, Ohio. Other honor guests were Mrs. Don Culler, the former Miss Mary Lee Gard ner; and the following brides to-be, Misses Mary Gage Barber to wed Joseph Clements, of North Wilkesboro; Rozelle Caudlll to wed Jack Anderson, North Wil kesboro; Mary Dula to wed Ed sel Whittingtoa, of Elkin; Lu cille Casey to wed George Wil son, Belmont; Betty Gray Church to wed Walter Morphia, Lexing ton; and Jo Lasslter to wed Harold Sturdlvant, Wllkesboro. Guests were welcomed at the door for the first tour by Mrs. P. W. Eshelman and Mrs. C. E. Jenkins and for the second hour by Mrs. Joe' Barber and Mrs. John EX. Justice, and saying goodbyes for the first hour were Mrs. F. C. Forester and Mrs. A. H. Casey, and for the second hour Mrs. J. B. Carter and Miss Frances Somers. Mrs. Edd F. Gardner and Mrs. William Bar ber alternated at the tea table, and those assisting with the serving were Mrs. A. G. Bloom field, Mrs. J. M. Derr, Mrs. Bob Day, Mrs. cWfrles Jenkins, Jr., Mrs. F. D. Forester, Jr., Misses Sarah Ann Barber, Betsy Barber, Nancy Brown, Dot Powell and Grace Frank Kllby. Little Miss Judy Brown Feted On Birthday Little Miss Judy Brown, daugh ter of Rev. and Mrs. Clate Brown, celebrated her ninth birthday anniversary at the Brown hom0 on the Oakwoods Road Saturday afternoon. Judy had as her guests during the afternoon forty of her friends. After an hour of games, the honoree led her guests into the dining room, where delicious re freshments were served. The guests were given favors and Judy was remembered with a number of nice gifts. Oakwoods Sunbeans Met On Friday The Oakwoods Sunbeams of the Oakwoods Baptist church met with their counselors, Mrs. Claud Baity and Mrs., Clay Ad ams, at the Oakwoods Baptist church Friday afternoon. The counselors had charge of the program. The topic for study was "Pray that all children of China may know Jesus better." Discussions were given by the counselors and scripture verses by the following children: Helen Anthony, Gloria Stroud, Annie Ruth Hayes, Glenna Anderson, James Bbbersoq and a number of children took part in the dis cussion. Special singing was rendered by Little Miss Nancy Jones and a letter from Mrs. Glenn Morris, missionary to China, was read by Mrs. Baity. Refreshments were served to the nineteen who were present and the Lords prayer was said in unison. Mrs. A. F. Kilby Entertains Her Club The Idlewise club members were entertained Friday evening by Mrs. A. F. Kilby at her home on Sixth Street. Following the dinner served at seven o'clock the guests played bridge at three tables with prizes going to Mrs. A. H. Casey for high score and to Mrs. R. T. McNiel for honors. During a short business ses sion Mrs. Edd F. Gardner was chosen as president for the new club year and Mrs. Hoyle Hutch ens as the reporter. . o CARD OF THANKS We wish to take this means of thanking our many friends for the kind expressions of sym pathy shown us during the illness and death of our mother.
