Sprulll re turned Wednesday from a ten days vacation trip to Carolina Beach. Miss Emma Eller left Tuesday for several weeks' visit with rel atives at Marion and Chilhowie, Virginia. Miss Elizabeth Finley and Miss Kate Ogilvie have returned to their homes here from Greens boro where they spent two weeks at Woman's College taking a graduate course in specialized reading. Miss Margaret Hutchens Ig spending this week with friends at Carolina Beach„ She plans to go from the beach to Kinston where she will spend a week with her roommate at St. Mary's Junior College, Miss Jackie Knott. Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Crow and son, Frank, Jr., will leave Saturday for Jacksonville, Fla. to attend a convention of the Southern Wholesale Confection eries Association. Mr. Crow is ■ member of the association's board of directors. Miss Mary H. Walker, a super vising teacher in the demonstra tion school at the Appalachian State Teachers College at Boone for the summer term, spent the week-end here with Mrs. C. L. Sari Triplett, of this city, army recruiter in this area, 1b recovering from an appendicitis operation performed Friday at the Wilkes hospital. Mr. Dean Norris, of Oxford, spent a few days with relatives and friends here this week. Mr. Norrls holds a position with the Oxford Ledger. Mrs. J. M. Lowe, who resides near Oakwoods, was a pleasant ^visitor to this office today. Mrs. Lowe was a resident of this city for a number of years. Mrs. T. J. Frailer, Miss Martha C Lue Frazier, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harris left Wednesday to spend a two-weeks vacation in New York. Mr. and Mrs. Frank P. Eller and son, Ned, of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Ethel James, of Delhi, La., are visiting for two weeks in the home of Frank's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Eller. Mrs. James R. Parlier, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Frank Cranor, herf, left Saturday to go to £8heville, to visit another daughter, Mrs. J. P. Boatright. Miss Deloris Holbrook, who has been a patient in a Charlotte hospital, has returned to her home in Wllkesboro. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. De Loss Holbrook. Mr. and Hrs. W. M. McCulley, of Sallsbary, spent the week-end in the home of Mrs. McCulley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. El : ler. Mr. McCulley returned Tues i day while Mrs. McCulley stayed I for a more extended visit. ! Harry Pearson, Jr., and sister, {Loretta Pearson, have returned 'to their home here after a two jweeks visit in Okahumpka, Flft., with their father, Mr. Harry Pearson. Their mother, Mrs. Fred Clark, and Mr. Clark went down to accompany them home. Mr. Jimmy Cook and Mr. Thomas Finley hare returned here to the homes of their re spective parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Cook and Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Finley, after spending two weeks at Camp Elliott near Old Fort. Mrs. A. H. Berry, of Ellerson, Va.,and Mr. and Mrs. Donald White and two children, Donnie and Betsy, of Richmond, Va., have returned to their homes following a week's visit here with Mrs. R. L. Wellborn and other relatives. Mrs. White is ^a daughter of Mrs. Berry. Mrs. J. C. Critcher, Sr., of Moravian Falls, is spending this week with her son, Mr. A. N. Critcher, and family, of Oxford, who are vacationing at Nags Head. She was accompanied to Oxford Friday by her son, Mr. Lawrence Critcher, and his daughter, Elizabeth. Mrs. Earl Meadows, and daughter, Sarah, ,of Pores Knob and Miss Julia Felts, of North Wilkesboro, spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Handy, of London, Ky. Mr. and Mrs. Handy and their children, Tom and Lois Ellen, accompanied them back home and are spend ing this week with Mrs. D. G. Wiles. Mrs. Milton Pittman was in Charleston, S. C., to attend the wedding of Miss Frances EsDorn. of Charleston, and Mr. James Francis McMillan, of Orlando, Florida. The couple were mar ried Saturday night at a formal wedding in the Bethel Methodist church. Mrs. R. J. Miller, of Norfolk, Va., Mr/and Mrs. George Corrie and son, Bruce, of Huntington, W. Va., arrived on the Brushies Wednesday. Mr. Corrie is pro fessor of economics at Marshall College, Huntington, W. Va. The Corries are leaving Thursday but Mrs. Miller will remain until September. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Johnston are spending the week in New York City, where Mr. JohnBton Is attending the furniture mar ket. They were accompanied to New York by Mrs. Joe H. Pear son and two children, Jane and Tommy, who are visiting at Rockaway Beach with Mrs. Hunt er Lea. Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Gambill, of Decatur, 111., are in the sta„e visiting with relatives. While In this section of the country, they are visiting in Winston-Salem with their daughter, Mrs. Be atrice Self; also Mr. Gambill's brother, Mr. W. W. Gambill, and sister, Mrs. Mattie Sparks and Mrs. Carrie Billings, of Dockery. Mrs. Johnnie Johnston and little daughter, Sandra, and Miss Esther Lea Barnett returned Fri day from Kansas City, Kansas, where Mrs. Johnston has been making her . hom^ for the past eight months. Mr. Johnston will arrive next week for a two weeks' visit.
