C^| Dr. Swalin To Contact Mexican Symphony Soon Chapel Hill.—"South of the border, down Mexico way," Is a musical Indication of the whereabouts of Dr. Benjamin Swalin, Director of the North Carolina Symphony, during the month of August. Dr. Swalin Is leaving Chapel Hill August 1 to appear as guest conductor with the University •( Mexico Symphony Orchestra in Mexico City. He will arrive in Mexico City August 3 to begin rehearsals. For the concert he will con duct on August 14, Dr. Swalin has selected Sibelius, First Sym phony; Enesco, Rumanian Rhap sody; Gluck, Ballet Suite; and Wagner, Excerpts from The Mastersingers. Dr. Swalin will also give the first performance in Mexico City of the "Golden Spike Scherzo," a work by the American compos-J er, George Antheil. Also Includ ed on the program will be Swalin's orchestral arrahgement of a selection by the Norwegian composer, Ole Bull. Many of these compositions have been heard by North Caro linians during the fourth annual tour of the Symphony this spring This will be Dr. Swalin's sec ond visit to Mexico in the past year. He traveled to Guadalajara last fall to conduct that city's «ym»ivony orchestra. Mrs. Swalin will be with him on the trip. Dr. Swalin 1b anticipating his Mexico City visit with great pleasure. He said, "My Guadala jara visit was exceedingly enjoy able. I found Mexico audiences responsive and musically well informed. I shall enjoy conduct ing for them again.'' It is expected that a large number of North Carolinians, va cationing in and around Mexico City will be present for the August 14 concert at the Palace of Fine Arts. Among the Tar Heels attending will be Dean and Mrs. R. H. Wettach of Chap el Hill. A concert has been scheduled for North Wilkesboro for next spring. Support JheY. M. C. A Truman Calls For Sharing Atom Data Washington, July 28.—Presi dent Truman said today a new long range policy of sharing atomic information with Britain and Canada must be worked out —and promised that Congress will help make the decision. Amid reports that the British are seeking latest know-how on the atomic bomb, Truman told his news conference in a state ment that present rules of co operation among the three na tions are ''limited in scope and duration." These, he said, Involve ex change of certain scientific and technical information and "col laboration on matters of raw material supply of common con cern.'' The United States must depend to a large extent on Britain and Canada for the basic bomb raw material, uranium, Britain la presumably in a position to put pressure on the United States tor a greater share tn atomic tacts than she has been getting. The statement said the three nations will hold basic talks on questions involved in tiling long range policy He emphasized that "these ex ploratory conversations" will In volve no agreements or commit ments by the U. S. on these questions. They will precede fur ther talks with Congress.
