OjlVull uiiilUI] Is Ready For Football Seven Games Scheduled; Coach Osborne Is Work ing Boys Into Shape Coach Sam Osborne at Millers Creek is drilling 25 candidates for the school's first football team. Needless to say that the Mil- J lers Creek coach, a graduate of Appalachian and who uses the Appalachian T, has altogether new material, because not one of the boys has football experience. Millers Creek school is still looking for some games, and does not have a complete sche dule. The first game will be at Taylorsville on September 16. The 23 rd is an open date and a game can be scheduled for that date. The first home game will be against Franklin high school, of Surry county, on September 30. Arrangements will be made to play most of Millers Creek's home games at night in Memor ial Park in North Wilkesboro, using either Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. On October 7 a game has been tentatively set with Cleveland, but the place has not been fixed. On the 14th Millers Creek will go to Mountain City, Tenn., and on the 21st will play Cove Creek here. Crossnore will be the next opponent here on October 2'8. November 4 and 18 are open dates and games are wanted for both. Millers Creek will play at Franklin November 11. Coaches with teams who can fill the open dates are requested to get in touch with Coach Osborne at Millers Creek. ? In practice sessions to date Coach Osborne has tried the boys out at various positions in an effort to try to settle on the best combination. The backfield candidates include two quarter backs who show passing ability. Clay Osborne and Benny Pierce. Other backs are Earl Watts, Beachel Snider, Ravaughn Ash ley, Ronald Englebert, Tommy Whittington, Ray Church. Can didates for end positions are Jim Lael, Dale Elledge, Hubert En glebert, Jim Williams, James Rhoades. Rex Kilby is center. Out for tackle and guard po sitions are Paul Snider, Paul Wellborn, Willard Crane, Bruce Crane, Glenn Church, Pritcharcl Faw, Bill Kanupp, Bob Sebas tian. Paul Porter and Jac Ue Westheimer. Although lacking woefully in experience, the boys will prob ably be as heavy as any ot,theii opponents and may be able to give a creditable account of themselves during their first gridiron year. Since school open ed Monday additional boys have joined the practice sessions and 7* the number may increase to 35 before opening date. Many of the squad will be in school for at least two more years and prospects are good for football at Millers Creek during the next several seasons. : S 0 CIE T Y Miss Sara Meadows Celebrates Birthday Miss Sarah Meadows, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Meadows, of Pores Knob, was honored at a birthday party Saturday after noon given by her mother, Mrs. Meadows, at the Community House at Pores Knob.
