Gives Card Party
The Wilkes boro Community
House was the setting for a love
ly party on Friday evening when
Mrs. Lawrence Miller entertained
at cards. Bridge was played at
nine tables with - the high score
award going to Mrs. M. M
^Brame, Jr., while Mrs. Charles
Garwood was the winner of the
prize in the game of rook played
at six tables. Honor gifts were
presented to Mrs. Ray Garland,
the former Miss Wanda Camp
bell; to Mrs. H. H. Dotson, of
Gladys, Va., houseguest of Mrs.
Charles McNeill;-and Mrs. T. P.
Cridlebaugh, of -Ashland, Ky.,
who was here visitihg her sister,
Mrs. D. L. Crook.
The hostess, prior to the game, I
was assisted by Mesdames Thorn-1
as E. Crysel and Presley Myers
in serving a dessert course.

MYF Holds A
Retreat On Mountain
Members of the Methodist
Youth Fellowship of the North
Wilkesboro First Methodist
church held a Retreat during the'
week-end at the Hubbard Cottage
on the Brushy Mountain. On
Saturday evening a group of the
officers accompanied by Miss
Rebecca Raper, director of Re
ligious Education, Mr. Bill Ga
briel, and Mr. and Mrs. Thur
mond Kenerly, met and discuss
ed plans for the year. Several re
mained over for the night.
The officers for the new
church year are Miss Norma Ga
briel, president; Mr. Jim Moore
vice president; Miss Margie Ken
erly, secretary and treasurer;
and Miss Carolyn Deans, secre
tary of the MYF Fund.
Sunday morning a group of the
other members joined those that
spent the night and were led in
a worship service by Mr. Ga
briel. A picnic lunch was follow
ed by a hike.
Ex Libris Club Met
Wijh Mrs. Johnston
Ex Libris club members were
entertained in their fortnightly
meeting 'Friday afternoon by
Mrs. Richard Johnston at her
home on Tenth Street. Mrs. Dar
win Smithey presided for a short
business session, and for the pro
gram Mrs. Johnston gave an ar
ticle on the different types of
homes. The hostess served re
freshments at the close of the
afternoon.

Mrs. Tal Barnes, Sr.
Fetes Bridal Couple
Mrs. Tal Barnes was hostess
at two small social affairs at her
home on E Street honoring her
son and his wife, Mr. and Mrs.
| Tal Barnes, Jr., who were mar
ried several weeks ago. The
bride is the former Miss Lea
Walsh.
On last Wednesday afternoon
Mrs. Barnes entertained at an
informal tea from five to six,
the guests consisting mostly of
the younger set. Mrs. C. B. Eller
poured tea, and others assisting
the hostess were Mrs. R. T. Mc
Niel and Mrs. A. H. Casey. On
Wednesday evening the hostess (
had several couples In for a buf
fet supper honoring the bridal
couple. For each occasion deco
rations for the dining room car
ried suggestions of the nuptial
green and white.
Mrs. George Forester,
Jr. Honored At Tea
Mrs. George Forester and her
daughter, Mrs. Dwight Miller,
were hostesses at a lovely tea at
the Forester home on E Street
Saturday afternoon honoring
Mrs. George Forester, Jr., who
prior to her recent marriage was
Miss Elizabeth McNeill. Sharing
honors with the bride were Mrs. |
Jack Anderson, of Greensboro,
the former Miss Rose Zell Cau
dill, of North Wilkesboro; and
Mrs. James Anderson, Jr., the
former Miss Betty Thompson, of
Avon Park, Fla. The hostesses
had gifts for each of the hon-|
orees.

ceived during the hours of three
to five-thirty o'clock. Assisting
Mrs. Forester and Mrs. Miller at
the tea were Mesdames Henry
Moore, W. F. Absher, J. M. An-|
derson, Jr., John Snyder, Q. A. (
McNeill, Boh Day, Ed Day, and j
C. E. Jenkins, Sr.
Decorations and appointments
emphasized the bridal note in
the dining room while elsewhere
about the home mixed blossoms
made a festive setting.
Fidelis Class Holds
Revelation Party
The monthly meeting of the
Fidelis class of the Wilkesboro
Baptist church was held Tuesday
evening at the home of Mrs.
Claude Kennedy with Mrs. Mon
zel Mastin and Mrs. Roy Barnes
as associate hostesses. Approxi
mately thirty people attended
the meeting, which was featured
with a Revelation party. During
the evening gifts were exchanged
and names drawn for another
year.
Mrs. G. T. Mitchell opened the
meeting with a devotional period.
During the business session the
class decided to take as their pro
ject for the year the furnishing
of the kitchen in the new educa
tional building. It was reported
that the silver had china had al
ready been bought. The hostesses
served refreshments at the close
of the evening.
MYF In Sub-District
Meeting Monday
Forty-one members attended
the sub-district meeting of the
Methodist Youth Fellowship held
Monday evening at the Wilkes
boro Methodist church. The in
stallation of the new officers
was conducted by Miss Rebecca
Raper and are as follows: Miss

president; Miss Carolyn Foster,
vice president; Miss Nell Qwyn

Bible Class Hostess
The Ila Holman Bible class of
the Wilkesboro Baptist church j
met Wednesday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Zeb Davis having!
an attendance of twelve mem
bers. The devotions were led by
Mrs. P. J. Mitchell with a num
ber of the women, Mesdames J.
R. Turner, Paul Yates, J. W.
Neel, A. E. Rhodes, R. L. Well
born, Charles Steelman and Car'
Bullis taking part. Mrs. Wellborn

Mrs. Ray Hoover entertained
at her home on D Street Friday
afternoon for the memberB of the
Round Table club and some extra
guests. Visitors playing in the
game of bridge, played at two
tables, were Mrs. Cecil Haass,
Mrs. J. Q. Adams, Mrs. A. L.
Brsostowski and Mrs. Maurice
Walsh, and coming in for the
dessert course were Mrs. Max
well Cox and Miss Rebecca Rap
er. Prizes were awarded to Mrs.

and low scores, and to Mrs. W. A.
