C., Route 4 DRIFTING ALONG So many drift along life's way And jnst exist from day to day; They have no aim that's great and high, No cause for which they live and die; No purpose seems to fill their hearts, No care for good they might impart; Just drifting on the sea of time And going to no place sublime. They drift to what their eyes behold, Where trifles glitter and unfold; They drift along with giddy folk As though to live is but a joke; Drift to what they think will please, Will give them pleasure, luxury, ease; They choose to glide instead of shift, Because it's easy just to drift. So many only drift along And make of life a jazzy song; They drift the way the current flows With all its vain and empty shows; They drift and never look to see That out in vast eternity* Each one must meet the race he's run And answer for the deeds he's done. They choose the dazzle, not the gem, The false and not the diadem; They drift along with merry crowds, Like breezes float the fleecy clouds; They think when fancy's satisfied, And they are pleased in selfish pride, they've gained the pearl, and that is it, Although it is but counterfeit. They drift and dream that they shall own The realm of honor and its throne; That when they come to fashion's shrine, And measure up in every line; Or have a social standing high That gratifies the lustful eye, The climax of this life is reached, And it shall never be impeached. o Short of Intoxication "Without sign* of intoxication in the full ordinary or in the legal sense of the term, the bearing and individual attitude of mind suffer temporary change as an effect of the drug; and those in contact with the person so affected hare for the time being to deal with an altered indi ridual, whose mind lacks temporarily its normal factor of judgment and conspicu ous elements of its self-control . . . Under the influence of alcohol, accuracy, avoid ance of accidents, tactful handling of col leagues and subordinates, observance of discipline, punctuality, reticence in mat ters of confidence, are all jeopardised; andean additional source of friction maj be brought to complicate the relations be tween the employer and employed."?
