Gilreath News Well It's "Sogruin" time once again on the Brnahies. The juice has been dripping and the ''lassies" rolling at the residence of Mr. R. S. Barnette. Mr. Barnette is a proud owner of a power mill, where the neigh bors in this community gathei to make their "sogrums." The making of molasses has been in operation oyer three weeks. No wonder everyone is sweet and sticky. It's been a long, sweet sticky Job. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weaver spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Bmrnit Jones at Clifton. Mrs. Clyde Jordon, Mrs. James Mayberry, both of New Hope, and Mrs. Walter Barnette visited Mrs. Era Barnette last week. Mrs. Barnette was guest at din ner. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Childress and children visited Mr. Chil dress' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Childress, of Pores Knob, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Davis, of Oakwoods, and Mr. Wintford Patrick, of Grayson, visited Mr and Mrs. Walter Barnette Tues day afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Combs, of North Wilkeeboro, visited Mrs. Combs' parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Barnette, Sunday. An electric pump has been in stalled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Spurgeon Barnette. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Childress and family visited a few hours Sun day at Fairplains with Mr. Chil dress' aunt, Mrs. Lunda Brewer. Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Chatham called at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Barnette and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Barnette Sunday. The writer would like to cor rect a mistake in Thursday'ss paper. It was Mrs. Ruben John on, of Elkin, who entered Davis hospital at Statesville instead of Mrs. E. S. Barnette. Mr. and Mrs. Spurge Barnette and nephew, Tom Gregory, visit ed Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hendren, Sunday. Era, Spurgeon and Pearl Bar nette, of Gilreath, were shopping in North Wilkesboro last Satur day. Rev. U. T. Younger filled his regular appointment Saturday and Sunday at Bethany. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Hubbard, of Charlotte, visited awhile Sat urday night in the home of Rev. and Mrs. J. P. Robinson. Mrs. Merlin Ball and children visited near Statesville Saturday [with Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield Ball. Mr. and Mrs. Mansfield Ball are the proud parents of a daugh ter. Mr., and Mrs. Ruben Johnson, of Elkin, called on Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Barnette and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Barnette Saturday night. Miss Dorothy Moore spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Moore. Mr. Mack Hendren, of Pores Knob, called on Miss E-lrea Mar low, Sunday afternoon. Mr. R. L. (Dood) Millsaps, of Statesville Route 2, has been taking treatment at Davis Hos pital in Statesville. Mr. Millsaps is well known throughout this community. Mr. Earl Ball, of Landis, spent the week-end with his father, Mr. I very Ball. Mr. Albert Baity has been farming during this nice warm weather, plowing, discing and sowing wheat. Mrs. Era Barnette visited with Rev. and Mrs. J. P. Robinson, Sunday afternoon. Rev. James Moore, the pastor, filled his regular appointment at Cherry Grove, Saturday night and Sunday. Mr. Walter Barnette, Mrs. Pearl Moore and son, Harold, visited with Mrs. Jim Owens of Wilkesboro, Route 1, Friday aft ernoon. I Mr. Martin Ball, who is em- j ployed at Chatham plant in El kin, spent the week-end here with his wife and children. C., where 45 women are or duty. y^Tl^TN^raolin, Symphony Concert, Free concerts by the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra have become a part of the lives of school children all over the state. The children learn about the con cert music before they attend the program and they enjoy the Orchestra im mensely. The children of North Wilkesboro will have the opportunity to hear the Little Symphony next spring througi the efforts of the local Symphony mem bership drive now in progress. Memberships in the Symphony Society make pos sible the free children's programs. Dellaplane News A birthday party was held last Saturday night at the home of the new lady, Mrs. Davis, who has moved in the new little house below Mrs. Cothren's. Out door lights were provided. It was held in the park back of the house. Those present enjoyed games, sandwiches, and roasting weiners and marshmallows. A mong the presents received were two yellow kittens. Mrs. Vetra Boyd, of the Brier Creek neighborhood, has been very ill and was treated at the Elkln hospital. Something is wrong with her back. Rev. R. R. Crater, a Mr. Hol brook, both of Ronda, and little Annie and Mary Anderson spent a few minutes with Miss Ruth Linney last Wednesday night. The men were en route to pray er meeting at Brier Creek. They walked over from Willie Ander son's and nearly fell in gullies washed out by water from George Johnson's field and al most as deep as Mr. Crater is tall. This is not the road we have been trying for years to have im proved. There is only one house on it, but it was always used by neighbors in going to old No. 60, to Dellaplane, Roaring River, or Wilkesboro if they wished. ? Peo ple in this section own their farms, have electricity and other comforts and are as enlightened aa the average. But they have no roads. Services were held at Oak For est last Sunday.
