Hiahwav This Community Represented At 0 Bristol Meeting Organization Formed T o Make Boone Trail Coa*t to Lakes Scenic Route Representatives of cities and towns of North Carolina, Ten nessee, Virginia and Kentucky met in Bristol, Tenn.-Va., to form an organization to he known as U. S. Highway 4 2l Association. The event was sponsored by the Bristol Chamber of Com merce and was attended by more Ahan 300 representatives of in terested citifs and towns along t?e route of the famous highway. The subject is of much inter est here because highway 421 traverses Wilkes county east to west and goes through the Wil kesboros. W. J. Bason, chairman of th? Highways and Roads committee of the Wilkes Chamber of Com merce was the representative from the Wilkesboros attending the Bristol organization meet ing. The plan of organization for the U. S. Highway 421 Associ ation calls for a vice president from each of the states affected. S. C. Eggers, of Boone, is the vice president representing North Carolina. The board of directors will be composed of one mem ber from each incorporated town on highway 421 from Fort Fisher, N. C? to Madison, Indi ana. The board of directors will elect the president. Marvin W. Krieger, executive director of the Harlan, Ky., Chamber of Commerce, will be assistant to the president and will be acting head of the association until the board of directors and president are named. Speakers at the Bristol meet ing stated that with proper im provement and promotion U. 3. Highway 421, which is called the Boone Trail in North Caro lina, can become one of the na tion's best known and most widely used highways. It will also furnish a desper ately needed commercial route between the industrial Piedmont Area of North Carolina and the midwest. Union Grove, Route 2 Rev. R. C. Loyd filled his regular appointments at Mt. Pis gah Baptist church Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Danah Prevette and son, Danny Lee, of Greens boro, visited Mrs. Prevette's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Wright, Sunday. Mfs. Wright is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Prevette this week. Mr. M. P. Rupard has been a patient at a Statesville hospital for the past month. P. S. Henderson, who has been sick, is improved at this writing. o Sugar production is highly important to the economic wel fare of Cuba. Junior Woman's Club Members Waitresses Members of the Junior Woman's club were waitress es for a day at Carolina Restaurant. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and the customers must have enjoyed their services. The club's treasury was en riched by a substantial sum because all tips went to the Junior Woman's club.
