Mouse control is not just as easy as that, and it is a persistent, continual fight. First, determine whether the mice are present; then how heavy the in festation and then plan the cam paign to a finish. Place the baits, then observe if the mice are taking the baits. If not, maybe a different bait is necessary. May be they don't want apple. If so, let 'em try grain bait, or carrot or sweet potato. If its freezing weather, grain is the-best bait as it won't freeze. Try some board slabs, here and there to attract them, then bait under these places. Pull trash away from tree trunks, to avoid crown in jury. In other words, try every thing necessary to rid the orch ard of mice. One grower yank ed out a young tree showing in jury and the dogs got eight mice from under that tree. That's too many mice to have around. Maybe there are more cases like this, and it's possible that it's in your orchard.?(From the No vember issue of the "Maryland Fruit Grower.") Small cans of zinc phosphide mouse poison may be obtained at the county agent's office in the courthouse at Wilkesboro. CHRISTMAS STAMP BAN IS LIFTED Christmas, Fla.?Letters from Christmas will have the familiar little green tree stamped on them again this year. The Post Office Department, which had ruled out the familliar | practice earlier this year, reversed i itself. Several appeals by Post mistress Juanita S. Tucker and a plea from Senator Spessard L. Hol land (Democrat, Florida), helped high officials change their minds. For years people have sent their letters here to be mailed with the "Christmas" postmark. Mrs. Tucker had dressed them up with the Christmas tree cachet?175,000 of them last year. Then her boss said it was against the rules. After the flood of pro | tests, they have decided the prac tice may be continued if there is a specific request from every per son sending a letter to be mailed and provided there is no extra ex pense for the government.
