McNeil, of Millers Creek, became Che bride of Clyde Barl Watkins, •on of Mr. and Mrs. Barl Wat kins, of North Wilkesboro, in a lovely ceremony solemnised Sat urday evening, March 18, at the home of the bride's parents. The Her. A. W. Kller officatef at the doable ring ceremony, which took place at eight o'clock in a green and white setting. Miss Bobby Jean Slier, pianist, rendered a program of wedding music preceding the tows, and played Lohengrin's bridal chorns for the entrance of the bridal party. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of neckline, and the sleevee ended in calla points over the hands. The fell skirt, gathered to .a fit ted bodice, extended into a pea cock spread of train. Her doable tiered finger tip Tell of Illation fell from a Juliet cap of Ivory satin and pearlised orange blos soms, and ahe wore a single strand of pearls, a gift of the bridegroom, fihe carried a bou quet of white roses centered with an orchid. Miss Anna Laura Canter, coa sin of the bride, was maid of honor and the bride's only atten dant. She wore a gown of baby bine taffeta designed similar to the bride's gown with matching mitts and headdress, and carried a bouquet of pink carnations. Best man for this groom was Blaine Oliver, of HuntersTille. Fallowing the ceremony the bride and groom left for a wed ding trip to Florida. For travel the bride changed to a grey Pin checked suit with which she used red and white accessories. Upon their return, the couple will be at home with the bride's parents. Both the bride and groom were graduated from the Millers Creek high school and are now em ployed by their fathers, respec tively. Oake Cutting On Friday evening following the rehearsal the bride's parents entertained at their home with a cake cutting honoring the mem bers of the wedding party. Other, guests included family members and out of town guests attend ing the wedding. The dining table spread with a white lace cloth, was centered with a three tiered wedding cake, topped with a min iature bride and groom. The first slice of cake was cut by the bride and groom, after which it was finished by Mrs. Blaine Oliver. Punch and nuts were also served. Miss Meryl Owens Is Bride Of James W. Johnson In a ceremony solemnised Saturday afternoon, March 11, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Johnston, North Wllkesboro, Miss Meryl Owens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Owens, of Idle wild, became the bride of James Wayne Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Johnson, of West Jef ferson. Rer. Clate Brown, offi ciated using the single ring cere mony. The bride was dressed In a nary suit, nary and white accessories, and wore a corsage of red Awe buds. Following the ceremony an informal reception was held at. the home of the bride's slater, Mrs. C. B. Johnston, guests In cluding relatives and close friends. The bride, who attended Vir ginia High at Bristol, Va., for two years, is now a senior at Fleetwood high school'; where she will continue her studies the re mainder of the term. The bride groom, a graduate of the West Jefferson high school, spent three years in the IT. S. Army, serving thirty months overseas, being sta tioned in Germany. Nanelle Miller Feted On Birthday Mrs. Wanda Kerley Miller en tertained at a children's party at her home on D Street Wed nesday afternoon honoring her small daughter, Nanelle, on her second birthday anniversary. The children enjoyed an hour of play together, after which they were served ice cream, cookies, and lemonade. Pictures were made of Nanelle and her young guests grouped around a lovely white birthday cake, topped with two pink candles. The honoree re ceived lots of lovely gifts. The Woman's Society of Christian fluilce of the North Wllkesboro First Methodist church will meet in the church parior Tuesday afternoon, 8:80 o'clock. The Kiama Horton circle will be In charge of the program. Mr. R. E. Dunn, Soil Conser vationist of Wilkes County, ad dressed the members of the Gar den club in their monthly meet ing held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. R. Hix with Mrs. C. E. Jenkins as associate hostess. Mrs. J. Q. Adams pre sented Mr. Dunn, who gave a most informative talk on soil con servation, which was followed by a discussion, question, and answer period. The president, Mrs. H. G. Dun can, presided for the business ses sion and gave a review of the rat ings of the club for the year. The cjub voted to give $10,00 to the Blue Star Memorial highway, and also made plans for a food sale to be pnt on Saturday the 25th of March. Plans were also discussed for the flower show to be given this spring, the date to be de cided by the 'committee, Mes dames Jenkins, Hix, Duncan, and A. C. Chamberlain. The clab is working on a radio award. *eo*», interesting talkf have already been given over WKBO, and others are planned in the near future. Thirteen mem bers attended the meeting and were served refreshments at the close of the afternoon by the hos tesses.
