Miss Martha Laws, of Mora vian Falls, is a member of the Place Cards and Seating commit tee for the junior-senior ban quet and dance to be given at Appalachian {College at Boone, April 8. Dr. Qr. T. Mitchell and Mr. J. C. Reins, of .the Wilkes bo ros, left Wednesday for a fishing trip at Sarasota, Florida. They were accompanied on the* trip by some friends from Fayetteville. Mrs. Bernard Prultt and son, Gwyn, of Roanoke, Ya., visited here last week with Mrs. Pruitt's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Fos ter. Mr. Prultt came in for the week-end and accompanied them home. Mrs. Glenn McNeill recently returned to her home here f^om a two-week's trip up north. She visited with her father, Mr. George Covington, at Brldgewa ter, Mass., and with her daugh ter, Miss Ruth McNeill, who tea ches at Aberdeen, Md. Mr. Harry L. Dula and Miss Myrtice McNulty, both of Lafay ette, La., arrived here Saturday for a week's visit with Mr. Dula's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Dula. Mr. Dula has been in Louisiana' for the past year on an engineer ing job with the State. Davidson College students, Messrs. John Oibbs, Phil Mitchell, and Lewis M. Nelson, Jr., arriv ed here Thursday to spend the spring holidays with their re spective parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Gibbs, Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Mitchell, and Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Nelson. They will return to David son tomorrow. Denver M. Stoker, airman, USN, of Route 1, North Wilkes boro, was recently graduated from the aviation Electronics School at the Naval Air Technical Training Center, Memphis, T«nn. Stoker, who- entered the Naval service March 22,1949, received his recruit training at the Naval Training Center, San Diego, Calif. Miss Martha Phillips, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Phillips, of Wilkesboro, and who has been a patient at the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem for several weeks, underwent an operation there Friday. Her condition is re ported as 'being satisfactorily. Martha is a granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. F. Jones, of this city. Mrs. R. M. Day, Mrs. Leah Pope, their father, W. E. Long, and Mrs. Mattie Johnson, of Roar ing River, returned Sunday from a two weeks visit in Lakeland, Fla. While there they visited sev eral interesting cities, St. Peters burg, Sarosota, Tampa and St. Augustine. They spent several days with Mrs. Nancy Brewer, a sister of the late Mrs. Long. Miss Margie Nqwton, a student at the Virginia Intermont Col lege, at Bristol, Va., was here for last week-end with her mo ther, Mrs. Walter Newton, and had as her guests Misses--Joan Reid, Bluefield, West Va.; Jo Blevins, Mountain City, Tenn., and. Myrtle Carlson, Rnglewood, N. J., also students at the Col lege. They were here from Sat urday until Monday evening. Mesdames Gordon Finley, J. B. McCoy, Russell G. Hodges, Guy Lillard, Allyn Moorehouse, J. B. Carter, C. Don Coffey, Jr., and Miss Elizabeth Finley were in Statesville Tuesday afternoon to attend a meeting of the local D. A. R. Chapter held in the Wo man's clubhouse. They went over especially to hear Miss Gertrude Carraway, of New Bern, past state regent and now vice-presi dent general from North Carolina. Other invited guests for the meet ing Included members from the Lenoir and Mooresville chapters. Mra.
