Bender, who was recently released alter being imprisoned by the Chinese Communists lor 19 months, told newsmen: "There's nothing like the Marines." , (International) WILLIE RECTOR FACES YEAR _ OF PRISON BEFORE PAROLE Raleigh, June 6 — Before Willie Rector can be considered for parole, he may have to serve at least a year in prison. That was the word given to Rector's wife, his two small child ren, and representatives Of the company he worked for by Paroles Commissioner T. C. Johnson to day. Convicted Of Itape Rector, a convicted rapist, es caped and eventually settled down in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he raised a family and became a trusted employe of the Central Motor Express company.! He used the name Marshall Evans. Johnson told the pleading group that it is the general policy of the paroles office that an escaped prisoner must serve one-fourth of the remainder of his term before being considered for parole. He pointed out that Rector has about i 19 years of his term remaining. I Rector escaped six years ago.1 Prison records shoy that he re ceived a death sentence in Burke county in 1931 on a charge of rape. This was commuted to life imprisonment and in 1939 his sentence was commuted to 30 years. o Miss Imogene Phillips Becomes Bride of Mr. W. A. Payne Miss Imogene Phillips, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy C. Phil lips, of Summit, and William An drew Payne, Jr., son of Mrs. W. A. Payne, Sr., and the late Mr. Payne of Summit, were married Wednes day evening May 31st, at seven o'clock, in a candlelight cere mony, at the home of the bride's parents. Rev. Wake F. Payne, brother of the groom, officiated, using the impressive ring ceremony. The home wag decorated with a color scheme of pink and white. An arrangement of pink peonies and lace fern, and other green ery with pink and white candles marked the altar where th'e vows were spoken. The couple entered the living room together, unattended. The bride wore a ballerina length dress of sheer white nylon mar quisette, over satin, with snug fitting bodice, puffed sleeves and wide ruffled collar at scooped neckline. Her hat was a small off-the-face white crocheted straw with should er length veil, and the accessories ^ere navy and white. Her only ornament was a three strand pearl necklace, and her bouquet was of red roseB. After the ceremony, a reception was given at the home. The din ing room table was covered with a lace cloth and centered with pink peonies and fern. The wedding cake was cut by the bride, and it was served with punch to all present.
