news ' CBy RUTH LJNNEY) | Mr. Turner Inscore has been ill about two weeks recently. He at tended church Sunday, however. 1 The pastor, Rev. Noah Hayea, preached the past Sunday at Anti och, using verses from the third chapter of First Timothy about the duties of bishops and deacons. The congregation was large. A number of new deacons.have been appointed at Antioch. Those appointed were Tom Inscore, Arval Johnson, Thurmond Sparks, Marvin Ma this, Gaither Mathls and Marvin Williams. Rct. Noah Hayes vtoited Mr. and Mrs. Turner Inscore and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. Inscore Sunday. The new addition to Antioch Church, which provides for Sun day school rooms, is nearly com pleted. The exterior is completed. The interior is not. There was an attendance of 111 in Sunday School at Antioch Sun day. Antioch has the largest Sun day school in this Immediate vici nity and a larger one than at many other rural ehurches. A singing school will be taught at Antioch very soon by Mr. Rea vie. A singing school began at Oak Forest Monday night, July 3. It is said a revival will begin at Cranberry the fourth Sunday In July, July 23, instead of the sec ond Sunday in August as it was frequently held. Miss Asalee Mathls, of this sec tion, a nurses' aid at the Wilkes Hospital, expects to begin nurse's training in a hospital at Ruffin, N. C. this autumn. Miss Louise Love is working as a nurses aid at the Wilkes Hospi tal un^il school starts it is under stood. Harris who had been criti cally ill since April, continues to improve and is able to be ap and go about the house. Services were held at Oak For est Saturday night and Sunday. There was prayer meeting Sunday afternoon at Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bell's. Mrs. Tirzah E. Sparks has been very ill at the home of her son, Mr. C. A. Sparks. She is nearly ninety. ' Mrs. Robert L. Harris, who seemed much better, became much worse again recently. Mrs. Harris a daughter of Mrs. Tirzah Sparks, has been ill all spring and sum mer. Little Mary Lucia Anderson re cently visited her aunt in High Point. She was accompahled home by her aunt'B husband. Many are attending the singing school at Oak Forest. o —. . . C., and Mrs. Jake Tharpe, of Charlotte, spent the Fourth of July holidays with Mrs. D. F. Tharpe and family. Sever al of her children visited her Sun day afternoon. Mr. Tom Tharpe, of Pocahontas, Va., is visiting his mother, Mrs. D. F. Tharpe and family. Loton Tharpe has returned home from Pocahontas, Va., where be spent a week with his uncle, Mr. Tom Tharpe and family. Mrs. Warren Darnell accompan ied her husband to Cleveland, Ohio, last week on a pleasure trip. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Key and Mrs. W. E. Shell was hostess to the members of the Sans Soucl j club and a trio of visitors at her home on C Street Friday even ing. High and second high score prizes, in the game of bridge at two tables, went to Mrs. M. B. McNeill and Mrs. Maurice Walsh. The hostess served refreshments during the play. '■*■ Miss Pattie Gabriel Celebrates Birthday Miss Pattie Gabriel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gabriel, celebrated her sixteesth birthday on Monday, July the third, with a delightful party given at the Gabriel home in Finley Park. Ap proximately twenty-one guests were present and enjoyed a num ber of games including canasta, in which a number of prizes were given. The white birthday cake, decorated with sixteen tiny pink casdles, was served along with other tempting refreshments. The honoree received lots of nice gifts as souvenirs of the occasion. o Miss Rebecca Raper, director of religious education Of the First Methodist church, is serving this week as one of the Counsellors at Camp Tekoa, a Methodist Youth camp for Intermediates, near Hendersonville. She was accom panied there Friday by Mrs. J. W. Powell and Mrs. William Gray, who went up to bring some of the young people home from the local Methodist churches, who had been in camp there for a week. Others providing transportation home for the young people were Mr. and Mrs. Howard Strader, who went up on Thursday and spent the night at AsherlUe. .
