Foundation Aids Wilkes Chapter In Polio Expense No New Cues In Wilkes But Funds Neseccary To Aid Old Patients A check for $3,275.00 to help pay for medical care of local polio patients has been received by the Wilkes County Chapter of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, it was announced yesterday by Sam R. Ogilvie, Chapter Chairman. The funds were pro, vided by national headquarters of the March of Dimes organization. * A heavy case-load from the 194 9 epidemic, worst in the nation's history, in addition to the costs of the year's polio incidence has exhausted the chapter's 1950 March of Dimes funds, the chair man declared. Up to July 22nd, the National Foundation has advanced $4,084,610.00 this year to chapters whose funds have been depleted by both new and carry-over cases, Mr. Ogllvle stated. So far this year in Wilkes County there have been no cases of Polio reported, but the Wilkes County Chapter is at present providing funds for the care, in whole or in part, of two children who were stricken last summer and are still in the Greensboro Convalescent Hospital. In addition, a number of braces have been purchased recently and many operations financed. In commenting on the polio situation, Mr. Ogilvie stated that while Wilkes County has fortunately escaped, there are epidemics in many nearby sections and in the U. S. as a whole it is one of the worst years in history, although the number of cases is less than last year's all time high. o Local Technicians To Attend Asheville Conference 11-12 Wilkes Cooperative Breeding Association announced today that their inseminating technicians will attend the First Annual Artificial Inseminator's Conference held undr the auspices of the Southeastern Artificial Breeding Association at the Langren Hotel, Asheville, on August 11th and 12th.
