Crysel and Mrs. Lawrence Miller attended a PMA district meeting held in Lexington on Tuesday. Mrs. John Gray Kenerly of Moore8ville spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Jennings at Pores Knob. Mrs. M. M. Darlington and son, Mr. Joe Darlington, spent the week-end at Shatley Springs in Ashe county. • Mr. Robert Glenn Dennis, son of Mrs. A. C. Dennis, will receive his B. S. Degree, August 11, at Wake Forest College. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Edward Harris are on a buying trip to New York City this week for Harris Brothers' Store. Mrs. M. I. Doty and son, Neal, who reside in Indiana, have been visiting Mrs. Doty's mother, Mrs. T. H. Whittington, and other relatives near North Wilkesboro. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Bowen, of Winston-Salem, spent the weekend here with Mrs. Bowen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie McNeill. Mrs. Lee Bossi, the former Miss Helen Irvin, of Wilkesboro, is I seriously ill at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D. C. Mrs. E. S'. Zimmerman is spending this week at Walnut Cove with Misses Claude and Stella Rierson, who were guests here last week of Mrs. Zimmerman. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Wellborn, of Charlotte, were here for the week-end with Mrs. Wellborn's mother, Mrs. H. G. Nichols, and other relatives. Misses Carrie Cole and Juanita Grant, of Boone, and Elizabeth Pharr, of Wllkesboro, spent the week-end with Miss Billie Jennings at Pored Knob. Mrs. Hugh Bowen returned several days ago to her home at Fairfield, Alabama, father visiting in Wllkesboro with her brother, Mr. Paul Webster, and family. Friends of Mrs. J. W. Fletcher, well known resident of the Edgewood community, will be sorry to learn that she is very 111 at her home. Mr. Jimmie Hayes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hayes, was guest of Phillip Lomax at Transylvania Music Camp, Brevard, last weekend. Miss Rebecca Raper spent last week at Asheboro with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Raper, and while there helped them move into their new home which has been just completed. Rev. Russell L. Young, paste of the First Methodist church, and Mrs. Young are vacationing at Manteo, and while there will attend a performance of "The Lost Colony." Mlsf Mary Tate Anderson, who holds a position at Tomlinson's Store, spent last week with her brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Anderson, at Damascus, Va. ' Mrs. J. H. Whicker and two grandsons, Jim and Joe Whicker, spent last week at Crescent Beach, S. C. Miss Betty Whicker, who was down there with them, remained over-for this week. Mrs. J. W. Allen haa been a patient for several days at the Wilkes Hospital as a result of injuries she received in a fall at her home on Fifth Street Saturday. Miss Betty Gwyn Finley, of this city, and her cousin, Miss Jean Cobb, of Berkeley,' California, are visiting in New York City. They were accompanied there by Miss Jo Oglesby, of Concord. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gabriel and daughter. Miss Margie Gabriel, were visitors at Roaring Gap Sunday. They went over to see their daughter and sister, Miss Norma Gabriel, who was spending a week at Camp Shirley Rogers. Messrs. Bobby Story, Bill Hubbard, Ray Triplett and B^ B. Banner, Jr., have returned to their respective homes after enjoying a week's vacation trip to Myrtle Beach, S. C. Mr. E. G. Finley, Mr. L. M. Nelson, Mr.. J^ B. McCoy, Dr. G. T. Mitchell, of the Wilkesboros, and Rev. Chalmers McCutchen, of Sanford, are on a fishing trip this week at Nags Head. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Gambili and children, Sherrill and Roger, have returned from a trip through the Smoky Mountains and Fontana Dam. They also stopped in Cherokee and saw the Indian Drama, "Unto These Hills." Mrs. O. O. Greer and two daughters, Misses Mitzi and Lona Jane Greer, of Warren, Ohio, are here on a visit with Mr. Greer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Greer, of North Wilkesboro, and other relatives. Mrs. J. L. Carlton, of Farmville, Va., has been h$re visiting in the homes of Mr. and Mrs. George McT Miller, of this city, and of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Carlton, of Boomer. The former Mrs. Carlton is a sister of Mrs. Miller. Mr. Jim Hethcock is visiting in New York City this week with his brother, Mr. Bob Hethcock. Bob was here last week on a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Hethcock, and Jim went home with him. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Whicker, Jr., who are spending the month of August at Blowing Rock, have as their guests relatives of Mr*. Whicker, Mrs. J, L. Durrett, Mrs. I. B. Andersen, seaman, USN. of Oa'.woods, recently reported for duty aboard the barracks ship USS Mercer with the Atlantic Reserve Fleet at Green Cove Springs, Fla. Anderson entered the Naval service Feb. 10, 1948. Mrs. Chalmers McCutchen and two sons, Joe Mack and Gwyn, of Sanford, are spending the week here with Mrs. McCutchen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Finley. They were accompanied here by Rev. Mr. McCutchen, and on Sunday the McCuthens ''pent the day at Montreat. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Caudill were at Camp Morehead from Friday until Sunday. They went down to bring home their son, Mr. Pete Caudill, who had been in camp there for twto weeks. They also brought hovak, Mr. Bobby Brame, who had beep attending the camp for six weeKs. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Landsberger have returned from Demopolis, Alabama, where they visited Mrs. Landsberger's mother, Mrs. Essie Stein. The Liandsbergers two daughters, Lynn and Elyse, who had been spending two months in Demopolis with their grandmother, returned home witu their parents. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Doughton and Miss Reba Doughton, of Washington, ! D. C., who are spending awhile there at their home. j A baby girl was born July 26, to Mrs. Harry L. Haaton, wife of Harry L. Heaton, chief boilerman, USN, of 1901 Morgan st., Springfield, Ohio, at the U. S. Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Va. The baby has been named Sandy Kay. The baby's father is serving abroad the aircraft carrier USS Midway. Mrs. Heaton is presently living at 123-A Hemlock, st., Norfolk, Va. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Gaddy had | as their guests from Friday until i Sunday Mrs. Banger Hill, Mrs. Casey Allen, and Miss Elizabeth j Finley, all of Wadesboro, and Mrs. Doc Whitley, of Albemarle. Vickery, Mr. Lewis Vickery, and Miss Ann Lewis Vickery went to Loray Sunday to attend the homecoming and 175th anniversary of the Concord Presbyterian church, the home church of the Vickerys. As a part of the anniversary, services were held at the church each evening last week, the speakers being young ministers that had gone out from the church. Mrs. J. G. Chipman and three children, Edwin, Sarah, and Har old, have returned to their home here following a week's visit at Rocky Mount in the home of Mrs. Chipman's sister and her husbank, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Batts. While at Rocky Mount the Chipmans, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Arie, also of Rocky Mount, spent a few days at Atlantic Beach. Mrs. Arie is a niece of Mrs. Chipman. Mrs. R. S. Gibbs and son and daughter, Hyatt and Roberta Gibbs, Mrs. John W. Leyshon, Miss Clara Ogilvie, Mrs. Lewis Vickery and daughter, Miss Ann Lewis Vickery, were visitors at Montreat Wednesday and Thanday.. They went up especially to attend a service there Wednesday evening in which Miss Sarah Dixon,,a member of the local Presbyterian church, along with a number of other peppfe were commissioned as missionaries.
