Mrs. Mamie Burchette has returned home after spending a few weeks with friendB and relatives in Virginia and Washington, D. C. Mrs. D. L. Burchette, Jr., and two children, of North Fork, W. Va., are spending some time with Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Burchette, Sr. Mrs. Roby Redding has returned from Charlotte after spending the summer with her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Shore, to spend the winter with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Parks. Mr. and Mrs. John Simpson and daughter, Faye, of Rocky Mount, are spending this week with Mrs. Simpson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Martin. • Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Walls, and children, of Statesville, spent Sunday with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Walls. The town of Ronda now has street lights. Mrs. J. C. Drum has been admitted to the Wilkes Hospital. Her many friends wish for her a speedy recovery. Mr. Ralph Martin and daughter, Ida Ruth, and son-in-law, James Parks, made a business trip to Wilmington recently. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sale and J children are spending this week with Mrs. Sale's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Poplin. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hawkins, Mr. and Mrs. Glay Combs made a trip I to the mountains Sunday and had a picnic dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Connie Walker visited relatives at Cummings Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Army RadU$Xfa„ International SwndphoS) James Martin Jolly Funeral Wednesday Funeral service was held Wednesday, two p. m., at Pleasant Home church for James Martin Jolly, 47, who was found dead in bed at his home in New Castle township Monday morning. Coroner I. M. Myers said death was attributed to a heart attack. Surviving Mr. Jolly are his wife, Mrs. Maude Jolly, and five children. He was a son of Martin and Louisa Hoots Jolly. Rev. L. E. Phone 586 Clingman Club In Meeting For July By ALtENE REDDING, Hub Reporter The Clingman Home Demon stration club held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday afternoon, July 27, at the home of Mrs. J. R. Calloway, having 12 members present. The meeting was called to order by the president and Mrs. R. H. Green opene.l with devotionals. Afterwards a business session was held. It was discussed and decided that the annual community picnic dinner would be held at Mrs. G. C. Green's Lake on Sunday, August 20th. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. Mrs. D. J. Redding, Jr., gave a demonstration on "Identification and Rooting of Shrubs.'' July is the best month of planting shrubs to root. They should be put in a box that can be well drained in a mixture of one half sand and one half sawdust. Cover with glass and keep watered everyday. Always root a new growth of shrub. D. Luffman, died Friday morning at her home near Elkin. Surviving are her husband: eight children, J. Bradford and Rev. John H. Luffman, Ronda, Raymond Luffman, Danville, Va. Thurmond, Noah, and Ernest Luffman, Elkin, Mrs. Alice Wagoner and Mrs. Ola Wagoner, Jonesville; 37 grandchildren; 18 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Mr?. Louise Crump, Elkin, and Mrs. Clense Gentry, Austin. Funeral was held Sunday at 2:30 p. m. at Little Elkin Baptist Church, of which she was a member. Rev. Ray Franklin and Rev. E. O.
