The only Machine of the kind that has stood the
test and given satisfaction to the public. It has
supplanted every Smut Machine yet offered in the
State, more or less of which have been taken down
to make room for it. The public need fear no im
position, as there nro now some 280 Machines run
ning in North Carolina : and 1 wish to offer no other
references than the gentlemen who arc usiug them,
whose expectations have been more than realized in
their performance. It not only thoroughly cleanses
the Wheat of Smut, but also punfies it of all other
su!staiices, almost to perfection. It takes up but 4
feet square in the mill and requires but little pow
er. It is warranted for five years against breaking

There are a number of these Machines through
which 100,000 bushels of Wheat have been cleansed

Machine For
CRUSHING, GRINDING, AND PULYERIZING,
Recently Patented in this Country and Europe.
COCHRAN'S PLANEOSPIIERICAL QUARTZ
CRUSHING and PULVERIZING MACHINES
are now in daily operation for the inr-pection of
the public, and will be submitted to any reasona
ble practical tests proposed by parties interested.
These Machines, by their simplicity of construc
tion, their durability, the undoubted principles up
on which they operate, their effective operation
nnd results, are justly entitled to the consideration
of all parties engaged in grinding, crushing and
PULVERIZING QUARTZ,
Iron Ore, Zinc, Copper and Lead Ores, and all oth
er Mineral Substances.
It is the peculiar feature of the economy of these
Machines that that they are found capable of crush
ing aud pulverizing into the finest powder any a
mount of Quartz or other earthy matter, in pro
portion to the amount of weight or power applied.
The earthy matter is so cuuipletetcly ground and
pulverized, that the gold may be easily separated,
and subjected to any process of amalgamation that
may be necessary.
The Machines work and deliver wet or dry,
as may be required, and run with little friction (be
ing almost without machinery), requiring no lubri
cating. The principle upon which they operate pre
cludes the possibility of their being put out of or
der; nor do they heat any material while being
pulverizing, from those required by the DRUGGIST
to those of the most extensive operations in CAL
IFORNIA and AUSTRALIA.
The machines are from 2 to 12 feet in dinmeter,
with balls or spheres from 3 inches to 5 feet in di
ameter, each machine weighing from 250 lbs. to 20
tons each, and arc sold with the right to use them,
at from $100 to $5000 each.
They can be worked by Steam, Water, Horse or
Manual pow'er, according to their size, aud by chan
ging the velocity and proportioning the weight on
thotop of the balls, any amount of power may be
used, from that of a single man or horse upward.
The proprietors of this invention solicit examina
tion, and will prove by practical tests the vast su
periority and economy of those Machines over any
other, lor crusnmg, griuuiug or pulverizing neraio
fore offered to the public.
These Macliines may be seen in operation at
foot of South 8th street, Williamsburg, at the large
Patent Block and Saw Factory of Messrs Burr,
