T Y virtue of the power and authority given me If by the last will and testament of Etheldred J. Peebles, dee'd. I shall offer at public sale, be fore the Court House door, in the town of Jackson, on Monday, the 5th day of December, 1853, that being Court day, a valuable tract of land, con t airline about 1280 ACRES, nearly one half of which ; is open arable land and the balance is in original growth and well timbered with various kinds of oak,- hickory and cypress. The open land consists in part of rich bottom, re cently cleared, and produces from twelve to fifteen bushels of corn per acre. There are nearly one hundred acre of the same quality' already drain ed and ready to be el eared for cultivation. The crop upon this year' shift will make from a thou sand to twelve hundred barrels of corn. There are upon the premises a framed dwelling-house, new barns and negro-houses, and other necessary buildings ; and nearly the whole of the land, both open and wood-land, is enclosed with a strong new fence, affording good pastures and an excellent range for hogs, cattle and other stock. . The said tract of land is eligibly situated, being about five miles from Jackson, on the Halifax road three miles from a landing on Roanoke river,, and about seven miles from Garysburg, the junction of the Petersburg and Roanoke and Seaboard and Roan oke Rail-roads. Persons wishine to exanune the land can be shown it by applying to Mr. Baldwin, the Overeer, Mr. Nicholas Peebles, or to myself. By taking this train, they will not only save 50 cents in the price of each passage and shorten the railroad travel 15 miles, compared with the route via Weldon, but they will reach Petersburg before the Petersburg or Portsmouth cars start from Weldon, as those cars have to wait there for the Wilmington cars, and besides avoid the delay of 3 to 4 hours at that place. The Chemical, Astro nomical and Philosophical Apparatus is not surpas sed by that of any similar Institution m the Sutb. The Literary Society of the Institute sustains a monthly Periodical which is read at the regular meetings of th Society. JCxtensive course r lecture ate delivered, accompanied with experi mental illustration. The Music deparment i fur nished with ten new and very superior instruments and is conducted by a gentleman Teacher, aided by four lady colleaguesv Musical Soirees are held monthly. There is also a large ana vaiuaoie ur gan for daily religion ervice. The Bible ia re gularly studied, and throughout the whole course, regard is had to the moral crdture of the Student. The young ladies do not visit tne stores nor rost Office, but make all purchase through the agency of friends. All letters received pass through the hands of the Principal, and where there is suspi cion of a clandestine correspondence, the letters are sent unopened to the Parent or Guardian. Th gtudenU do not go abroad without a proper atten dant. They are not allowed to visit, nor to receive call, nor to attend any exhibition without permis sion from the PrincipaL They attend divine ser vice on th Sabbath at such place as the Parent or Goardian may direct. To prevent rivalry in dress, a simple uniform is prescribed. There are two ses sions commencing on the 2d Wednesdays of Octo ber and March. The vacation is from the last Thusday in July to the 2d Wednesday in October. Students can enter at any time and are charged accordingly. No deduction for tuition will be made after entering, except in cases of protrated illness, when ne Wthe bill wi 1 be deducted.
