HOOD SCO. .No. 121 North Tenth st, Philadelphia Nov. 22nd. 1853. METROPOLITAN. Female Seminary. 2HHE subscriber proposes to open, on the see 4Pb ond Monday in January next, in the City of Raleigh, a High School for young Indies, under the above title- For this purpose, he has purchased the proper ty formerly owned, and employed for school pur poses, by the late Rev. . J. Finch. It is situated on Halifax street n few hand red yards north ef the Capitol, in a pleasant and desirable part of the city ; sufficiently near to enjoy all the advan tages of the city, and sufficiently retired to be free from most of its annoyances He has also purchased an unimproved lot " the same vicinity, one of the most eligible and beau tiful sites in the city, upon which he intends, as soon as circumstances will admit, to erect large snd commodious buildings, with special reference , to school purposes. Many circumstances conspire to render Raleigh a most desirable location fer a female sehooL Its proverbial healthfulness ; the Objects of interest which attach to it as the cap ital of the States its accessibility by means of railroads; the high chamcter of the institutions it already contains; antfits growing importance, giv ing "promise of permanent prosperity, are all oir- cumstanaes which cannot be overlooked by parents desiring to give tneir daughters a polite and an ac complished education. The subscriber wUl be as sisted in the duties of the school by Mrs. McDow ell and &U the facilities necessary te a first class school, win be promptly provided. .t , . The course of instruction-will be thorough ; em bracing all the branches usually taught in - High Schools or t olleges, and diplomas will be granted to those who complete the course . Certificates of graduation will also be given in Music and other Ornamental Branches, to those who attain, the re quisite proficiency. f -Sr- The sessions aud vacations wilt be arranged to correspond as nearly as practicable with' those of Wake Forest College, in order that parents patron . izing both Institutions may have the advantages of sending their sops and daughters together. No deduction (or absence, after a pupil has en tered, except in ease of protracted sickness. ., The above terms are as moderate, it is believed, as the expensiveness of living and the facilities, which will be provided, will justify. But experience has taught that Parents, who properly appreciate ' the education of their children, are more solicitous, about the character of the instruction imparted, than about the price paid for it. . - Hence the prime object will not be to make, the school as cheap as possible, but to render the- in struction as efficient as posisble. ' ' j The subscriber flatters himself that the experi ence he has had in teaching young ladies and the satisfaction be has been enabled to give, will be a sufficient guarantee, to all who may be disposed to patronize his school, that their daughters , will be properly cared f or .""and faithfully instructed. And as he has undertaken this enterprise at the urgent solicitation of numerous friends, and under the impression that important interests may be subserved thereby, he trusts that he shall not lack that generous sympathy and liberal support which haveAeen accorded to bun elsewhere. v X ' S 1 AMcDOWELLv , Nov. 29, 1858. . , d 97 JAMES IREJJEIals, V ATTORNEY f AND - CO UN SELLER AT .LAW, . , t.- BAtnoK,; N. .
