JMO. C. PA1TRIDGE, See'y. Kaleifh, Dos. t. 185S. 4w 100 To Tanners. rrHE subscriber begs leave to inform the Pro I prietors of Tan Yards throughout the State of North Carolina, that he is Agent for the sale of Patent Rights in this State for Dr. David Kenne dy's new process of Tanning without the use of bark. Leather tanned by this method is better every way than that tanned by the old or any: other new mode now in use. It is stronger and more imper vious to water, while it is equally as pliable and easy to work. The process is a chemical compound, warranted not to injure the skins. A side of sole or harness Leather, tanned by this method, will weigh a pound more than one tanned by the old method, and the worth of this addition! pound of Leather will pay for the materials it takes to tan it. Sheep skins tinned by this method are as strong, and will wearmade into a shoe or boot, equal to calfskin, maintaining its rhape fully as well. The time for tanning the different kinds of Leather is as fol lows : Sheep skins 1n 4 day ; Calf skins in from 6 to 10 days;. Kip skins 16 to 21 days; Harness Leather 5 to 6 Weeks ; Sole Leather 3 months. One man cirn tan and dress as much Leather in one year by this method, as two can by the old All letter addressed to me at Wilmiugtou, N. C, will bo promptly attended to. W. A. HOOD &CO. No. 121 North Tenth st, Philadelphia Nov. 22nd, 1853. 93 METROPOLITAN. Female Seminary- 2KTHE subscriber proposes to open, on the sec yL) ond Monday in January next, in the City" of . Raleigh, a High School for young ladies, under the above title- " For this purpose, he has purchased the proper ty formerly owned, and employed for school pur poses, by the late Rev.- J. J. Finch. It is situated on Halifax street, a few hundred yardB north 1 ef the Capitol, in a pleasant and desirable part of the city ; sufficiently near to enjoy all the advan tages of the city, and sufficiently retired to be free from most of its' annoyances. He has also purchased an unimproved lot, in the same vicinity,--ono of the most eligible and beau tiful sites iu the city, upon which he intends, as soon as circumstances will admit, to erect large and commodious buildings, with special reference to school purposes. Many circumstances conspire to render Raleigh a most desirable location for a female school. Its proverbial healthfulness ; the objects of interest, which attach to it, as the cap ital of the State ; its accessibility by means of railroads; the high character of the institutions it already contains ; and its growing importance, giv ing ptymiae of permanent prosperity, are all cir cumstances which cannot be overlooked by parents desiring to give their daughters a polite and an ac complished education. The subscriber will be as sisted in the duties of the school by Mrs. McDow ell and all the facilities necessary te a first class school, wili be promptly provided. v rv 'f. . The course of instruction will be thorough .em bracing all the branches usually taught in High Schools or i olleges, and diplomas will.be granted to those who complete the. course. Certificates of graduation will a so be given in Music and . 0her Ornamental Branches, to those who attain 4h re quisite proficiency. ' The sessions and vacations will be arranged . to correspond as nearly as practicable with those' of Wake Forest College, in order that parents patron izing both Institutions may have the advantages of sending their sons and daughters together. 1 TERMS FRQBSSSIOK. Primary Department, if 10 Preparatory dp 1.15 Classical aud Scientific Department ......... .u25 Music on Piano and Guitar including the use of Instrument, Other Ornamental Branches at the - ' sual prices. . " - ' Board including washing fuel, Ac, .60 Contingent Expenses, 1 Payable promptly at the end of each session. No deduction for absence, after a pupil has en- tered, except in cases of protracted sickness. The above terms are as moderate, it is believed, as tjhe expensiveness of living and the facilities, which will be provided, will justify., But experiene has taught that Parents, who properly appreciate the education of their children, are more solicitous about the character of the instruction imparted, than about the price paid for it. Hence the prime object wilt not be to'make the school as cheap as possible, bnt to render the in struction as rfficient as posisble. r The subscriber flatters himself that the experi ence he has had in teaching yonng ladies and the satisfaction he has been enabled to -give, will be a sufficient guarantee, to all .who may be disposed to patronize his school, that their -daughters will be prop'erly cared for, nnd faithfully instructed,' And as he has undertaken this enterprise tvHhe urgent solicitation of numerous friend and tinder the impression that important interests may "be. subserved thereby he trusts that he shall fto lack that generous sympathy and : liberal Support which have been accorded to hinv elsewhere.'
