1 BROWN'S ESSENCE OF JAMAICA GIN
i GER. This Essence is a preparation of un
usual excellence. In ordinary diarrhoea, incipi
ent cholera, in short, in all cases of prostration of
the digestive functions, so common, it is of inesti
mable value. During the prevalence of epidemic
cholera and summer complaints of children, it is
peculiarly efficacious: no family individual or
traveller should be without it, as it enables the
system to resist the influences of incipient disease,
which ttirk in a changing climate.
: Caution. Be sure to get the genuine Essence,
which is prepared only by F. Brown, at his Drug
and Chemical Store, N. E. Corner of Fifth and

To the Correspondents of
HENRY CLAY'.
TIHE subscriber being now engaged in an en
largemeut and completion of his Llfe ad
Times of Hensy Clay, finds, on examination of
Mr. Clay 's papers and correspondence at Ashland,
that his Private Correspondence is of material im
portance for a complete exhibition of his character
and history, mid of those portions of the history
of the times with which he was connectedftAs
Mr. Clay was not in the habit of taking coof
his own letters, they are now scattered over the
country in the hands of his numerous correspon
dents, and have doubtless been preserved. No
matter how private or even confidential the cor
respondence may have been, if not of a nature to
render its posthumous publication improper, it is
a very effective mode of illustrating character,
and is often important in history. The subscriber
therefore respectfully and earnestly requests all
correspondents of Mr. Clay, whether in the earlier
or later periods of his life, in public or in private
stations, who may be in possession of original let
ters from Mr. Clay on any subject whatever not
sacred to privacy after death, that they will be
pleased, if not inconsistent with their feelings, to
forward such letters to the publishers of the work,
A. S. Baenes & Co., 51 John-street, New York;
and they may be assured that the letters will be
returned, or subject to their order, according to
instructions that may be given.
The subscriber will also be greatly obliged for
any communications relating to Mr. Clay that may
be thought new and important, addressed to the
care of A. S. Barnes & Co.. as above mentioned.
As the design is to publish the work in the coming
spring, it will be seen that immediate attention to
this request will be necessary to make it availa
ble. The subscriber will be greatly obliged to all
Editors of Newspapers who may take sufficient
interest in this notice to give it circulation.

1000 Acres of Land for Sale
nHHE Subscriber wishes to se.l his lands in the
Jl county of Beaufort They lie on a large and
navLcable stream, (South Creek,) which empties
into Pamplico River, on its Southern side, some
thirty miles east of the town of Washington. Said
lands are a part of the large and fertile swamp,
formerly owned by Isaiah Respass, Esq., can be
easily drained, and, competent judges say, render
ed as productive as the best lands in the county of
Hyde.
The tract is a dense unbroken forest, and offers
the most flattering inducements to the planter,
who wishes to establish a profitable farm in
North Carolina. . !
These lands, at Mattamuskeet, would command
thirty dollars per acre, and are really more valua
ble, located, as they are, in a region off country
seldom, if ever, visited by storm, and altogether
removed from the danger of floods and tides.
They would be sold upon the most liberal terms,
and a perfect title given the purchasers -
Any person or persons wishing to purchase said
lands can do so by calling upon him at Mr. Law-i
rence's Hotel, Raleigh, or upon Mr. Wm, H. Wil
lard, of Washington, N. C, whom he has author
ized to act as agent in the premises for him. '
