B. ROOT. V ; USE :t I CHTallAN'S YEAST POWERS 1 lakigfe Register. SATURDAY MORNING, MAY 3, 1862. The Royal Family or England. .The Par is correspondent of tbe New York Herald writes of the royal f .mily of England : From England, since the death of the Prince Consort, are heard rumors which may be taken a p ssiblo shadows of coining events. The Queen is subject to fits of depression, which at times renders it impossible to approach her. It is well known that the Prince of Wales gives little promise of dlling up the void created by tie death 'of his father. His tastes are of a low order, and when, ever left to his own devices, he is fond of herding with parties utterly unworthy of him. He is morbidly susceptible of flattery of a gross kind, and his amours are all, mora or less, of a vulgar character. Saortly before the death of the' Prince Caneort, it is well known that he visited Cambridge, but it is hot generally known that the conversations with the Prince of Wales at Maddenly were of so unsatisfactory a nature as to give him the most serious anxiety. On his re turn to Windsor he brooded oyer what bad passed to that degree that his physician remontra ted ; and only a short time before his death he said to the Princess Alice that the answors he received from her brother were of a character so low, so depraved and vitiated, that he fearea all the pains he had bestowed on his education, would be found to be worse than useless. It appears there is some woman in town who exercises great influence over him, and once or twice the Prince stole away from Maddenly un known to General Bruce, Lis tutor.toeee her. Upon one occasion he was found out, but not until the train haddeparled, when a telegram was despatch ed to Windsor, and the Prince was somewhat surprised to find at tbe station, waiting for him. one of the royal carriages, with Sir George' Gray in attendance, to escort him to the pater familias. The Princess Royal, too, who married the Crown Princo of Prussia, has, it appears, been united to a man of dissolute , character. Some time ago her Royal Highness was said to have sprained her ankle, when tbe truth was that her husband, in one of , his drunken fits, had1 kicked her down some steps. The Princess Alice, after her marriage, will live at 'Frog more,, and as she u supposed to have inherited the talents and dis position .ot her father, in a great degree, she will be a real comfort to the Queen. But it is in the order of human events that a turn should occur in the tide of life. Tbe Qu-jen has been bo re markably blessed, her happiness bo continuous, her feelings so untried, that a change seemed in evitable. Troublous times are looming in the distance for her and the country she reigns over. Lord Paimersion la not to be disturbed, I hear. &o long as his health permits him to wield the power he hok's, so conservatives are pledged to support him in any party, struggle, but death or disease may incapacitate him to-morrow, and then, with the. occupant of the throne in such ii ibulatiun, trials il no ordinary nature may GEN, BEAUREGARD'S ADVICE. We find the following in a loiter to the Baton Rouge "Advocate" from a member of the Confed erate Guards' Response Battalion. The letter is dated MRrch 31st : General .Beauregard and staff yesterday paid our Dattaiion a special and Iriwidly visit, and af ter shaking hands with the boys, he addressed us as follo ws : "Boys, be patient ; the spideris patient it takes him a long time to weave his web, but he never fails tocatch his fly. We must imitate the spider our web is nearly complete. In a few days you will have work to do ; my advice to you is to keep cool-don't be in too great a hurry; take your time when the fight comes, which I think will be a few dys, load and shoot slow and aim low. Follow this and history will have another victo ry to record for you." After another warm shake of tbe hand and a cordial, "God bless you," the GeneraHeft us amidst the wildest applause of our boys. Although in the primo of lite. Gen. Beauregard's head is now quite grey ; his looks are thoughtful, but buoyant and conndent. Me possesses the whole confidence of the entire army, and is the idol of the Louisian- idD8. Gen. Prick in Mkmphis. Gen. Sterling i rice arrived in Memphis on. the 10th inst., and was followed by a clamorous throng to the Gay- oso lictel, where, in response to the continuous cheering of the multitude, he addressed them in a lew words. lie said he felt deeply the compliment paid him by this demonstration, but would prefer demon strating his gratitude to his fellow-countrymen on the battle Held, where he expected soon to be heard Irom more tavorably than from the stump' The time for speechnlaking bad passed, and the time for action had arrived. He had commenced this service without men, money or munitions of war; now he could boast of a gallant band of true soldiers not inconsiderable in numbers, and un surpassed in valor and zeal, who would stand by him, and he by them, to the end--for weal or for woe, come when that hour may. He bad returned the arms and supplies he had borrowed to begin with, and still retained abundant supplies lor the valorous sons of tbe West, won by them in the conflicts of the past for future use. A Yankee correspondent of the Louisville Journal, writing from the Tennessee river, classes the Unionists found in that section in this wise: Thi3 invaluable class is composed according to a careful analysis made by an eminent chemist on the spot of ten parts unadulterated Andy Johnson Union men, ten of good lord and good devil-'l tee, live of spierf.anfl seventy five of seal lo wag too lazy to run, and therefore disqualified for ser vice in the secesh army, and too cowardly to steal on tbeir own responsibility, but' willing to be en rolled as "Home Guards," so as to plunder their neighbors under the Union flag. " The Post-office Rout Agent who arrivede here o-day, from Decatur, Ala., ' reports that at the time the Yankees captured Decatur, Xbfty took nineteen car loads of mails; also several mail bags from New Orleans. They also captured eight engines, and retook five hundred Yankee prisoners who were marching through that place ou tbeir way to Alabama, and the Confederate escorting them. It is supposed that the mails contained correspondence, relating to the fort and defenses of New Orleans, swd the commission; of the new poet master, Tbe agent in charge of the mail sent from New Orleans had barely time enough to change the labels on two of the mail bags and send them hack to Jackson, Miss., to be forwarded lo Montgomery, Ala. iV.
