This suspense will fall heavily on those poor men who were depen dent on the money earned for work on the street, for a subsis tence. We hope, for their sake alone, that the suspension will not last long. He was sent to jail in default of bail. The revival at the Swain Street Baptist Church, continues with unabated interest. Services will be held there to night, and pro bably all the week. M. Bro.vn of New Hanover, brought up the following prisoners Saturday for the penitentiary : Charlotte Beach 3 years ; Melvin Brown 3 years ; Jas. Dotry 3 years ; Jane WiL Iiani3 3 years ; Arthur Fisher 4 vear8all colored, and all for larceny. Don't forget that Mr. W. A. Gattis keeps fresh, fine apples on hand all tke time and sells them at, very reasonable figures. Country merchants would do well to order their Christmas supply of apples direct from him. , W. A. Estes, Sheriff of Stokes county has turned over the follow-in"- prisoners to the authorities of the C.F. & Y.Y. Railroad : Vol- ly L. Caiston, 4 years ; George Stanfield, 4 years ; Peter Jessup, 3 years ; Reuben Amburn, 5 'years. These were sentenced at the fall term of the Superior Court for said county. In our notices, at different times, of Mr. Wm. Woollcott, of Wilmington street, we have fail t.J to mention the fact that ho has extended his business into Hargett Street. The room on this street is devoted almost ex clusively to ready made clothing. He keeps a large stock of ready made clothing in connection with his other dress goods and 'sells them very reasonable. He is one of our cleverest merchants and keeps a corps of polite clerks, consequently he enjoys a large wholesale and retail trade. Read his advertisement. We sincerely regret to learn that Wm. King, Esq., living on the Avent Ferry Road, just be yond the western limits of the city, has had the misfortune to lese his little daughter and, only child. She died of membraneous croup, last night about 12 o'clock, after a most painful illness. We sincerely sympathize with the af flicted family in their sad bereave; ment.
