Sec Prices Rise j|
For Horses, Mules 1
__ i
COLLEGE STATION, Raleigh,
Nov. 19.—Higher prices tor horses ;
and mules as they become scarcer i
in the next few years are foreseen ’
by the federal bureau of agricul- ;
tural economics. ]
The number of work animals in
the United States wall probably i
continue to decline for the next i
four or five years, the bureau said 1
in an Outlook report sent the N. C.
State college extension service. i
In some parts of the country, more i
tractors will be put into operation i
as the number of horses and mules 1
ontinues to decline, the report said,
►ut there are large areas where
Iraft animals will be used almost j
xclusively for years to come.
North Cc-roLna is one of the,
tates where most of the farming
iperations can be done better with
vork stock than With tractors, say
pecialists of the extension serv
ce.
For this reason they are encour-;
iging farming to breed and raise,
nore horses and mules both for
iome use and for sale.
Extension specialists and county;
arm agents have been helping!
lumerous farmers secure brood
nares, jacks, and stallions for;
ireeding purposes, and the produc- j
tion of colts has torn,**
in this state. *** 1
