Gastonia Library Tax Is Approved GASTONIA. — Directors of the Gastonia Chamber of Commerce yesterday gave their approval to a recommendation of the Cham ber's civic affairs committee that the Gaston county commissioners be asked to levy a special tax for support of the Gaston county public library. The commissioners, by an act of the recent Legislature, have the power to levy this tax at their discretion, thus making the library become supported by direct taxa tion. The library is at present sup ported by appropriations made an nually by the City of Gastonia and Gaston county. The American Red Cross repre sentative Francis James informed national Headquarters here that 296 trucks furnished bv Supreme Allied headquarters and the French government are available for the supply work. The truck service heretofore has been on an irregu lar basis. From 10 to 12 trucks will make up the daily convoy from Switzer land to the prisoner centers. The trucks provided by the French government will be used to carry supplies for internees in concen tration camps as well as for pris oners of war.
