cently returned from Germany and
spent & 30-day furlough with hisi

ney, has reported to the general.
hospital at Tuscaloosa, Ala. Sgt. j
Mauney has been in service since
February, 1944, and was wounded
in Germany.

Receive Badges
Two Cleveland county men have
recently been awarded the combat
Infantryman’s badge while serving
with the 90th infantry division in
Germany: Pfc. Calvin W. Chris
topher, son of Mrs. Nellie M.
Christopher or Shelby, and Pfc.
Fred B. Thrift, husband of Mrs.
Ruth V. Thrift of route 2. Both
are with the 357th infantry.
Clyde McKinney At Air
Field In New Mexico
Flight Officer Clyde E. McKin
ney, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E.
McKinney of this place, is now at
Roswell army air field, New Mexi
co, where he is training to become
a co-pilot on a B-29 Superfortress.
After completion of the course
there, he will join the rest of the
flving personnel of a B-29 in an
operational unit for further train
ing and will then be ready for
combat duty.
Robert Crook Now
In Cairo, Egypt
Mrs. Marjorie Bowling Crook of
this place has received word that
her husband. Sgt. Robert C. Crook,
is now with the air forces at Cairo,
Egypt. Sgt. Crook went to Egypt
from Germany where he was a
member of a veteran Ninth air
force group which flew supplies to
our fighting forces.

The revival is being conducted
by Rev. J. W. Costner, who is
bringing some soul stirring mes
sages.
The W. M. U. met with Mrs.
Lala McSwain on Tuesday night,
July 10th. 15 members were pres
ent, and interesting program was
given by Mrs. Blalock, Mrs. Sher
man Weaver and Mrs. L. E.
Greene, after which Mrs. McSwain
assisted by her daughter, Mrs. Roy
Cochrane served refreshments con
sisting of cake and ice cream.

held its monthly meeting with

returned home two weeks ago after
being a prisoner of war in Germany
since February, 1942.
