Sgt. Ralph Mauney, son of Mr and Mrs. Irvin Mauney of Cleve land avenue is now home for a short visit with his parents and his brother, James, who arrived home several days ago and was since married to Miss Ethel Mae Car roll. Mrs. M. A. Costner and family have as their guests this week, Mr and Mrs. J. B. Hullender, who ar rived last week, Mrs. Ruth Bow man and two daughters, and Miss Biddy Hullender, and Miss Sally Kaye, who arrived this week from Jacksonville, Fla. Garland Steele, sr.. has been out of town for the past several days on business but is expected back late today or early Saturday morn ing. Lt. Jim Logan, U. S. army, who resides on Cleveland avenue, is now at home for a visit with his wife. Sgt. Luther Stroup and wife are now visiting with Mrs. Hulda Hul lender of North Dilling street. Sgt. Stroup arrived here last week. Flight Officer Archie B. Costner, USAAF, is home on a 12-day fur lough for a visit with his mother and family, Mrs. M. A. Costner of 205 Dilling street. F-O Costner will leave Monday for Lincoln, Neb., where he is stationed. Mrs. S. M. Huneycutt has as her guest this week her son, Pfc. Fred Meridith, U. S. army, and his wife, who arrived here from Texas ear lier in the week. Pfc. Meridith has a 15-day furlough. Seaman Kenneth Jenkins ar rived home this week for a short visit with his parents and other relatives of Kings Mountain. Cpl. William L. Watterson ar rived in the states late last week at the ATC airbase in Miami. Fla., along with 35 other North Caro linians. Revival At Davids Church Next Week A series of revival services will begin at David’s Baptist church at Beth Ware Sunday night at 8 o'clock with the Rev. S. A. Stroup of Mount Holly assisting the pas tor, the Rev. D. F. Putnam, with the preaching. Services will be held each morning at 10 o’clock and each night at 8 o’clock throughout the following week. The public is in vited to attend these services. Rev. Albeit B. McClure Accepts Valdese Call LINOOLNTON—Rev. Albert B. McClure announced to the mem bers of his congregation at the prayer service Wednesday night that he was accepting the call to the Valdese (N. C.l Presbyterian church. His resignation will be come effective in September. Rev. McClure has been pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Lincolnton for the past eight years. More than 60,000 soldiers In the Mediterranean theater attend edu cational courses given by the Armed Forces Institute. E. church Sun day afternoon at 3 o'clock, the gold star will be presented to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Strong, parents of Pvt. Arthur G. Strong, who was killed in action in Europe in the battle for Germany. Mrs. Strong will receive the gold star for her son. The presentation will be made by the Rev. J. H.
