And first, that christians gen erally, and those of the primitive church particularly, were most eminent for true christian piety who believed and defend ed the doctrine of election, predestination and the final perseverance of the saints. The Apostle Paul, in his epistle id the Ro mans, after supporting and ably ? defend ing the points in question, comrriences his 12th chapter in these words I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
