Murder. We learn from the
Elizabeth the City Star, that on
Sunday week a man by the
name of Jesse Easton, living
near the south end of the Dis
mal Swamp Canal, killed one
of his neighbors by the name
of Frederick Gregory. We un
derstand a dispute arose be
tween them about gathering
corn, and Easton deliberately
shot the other dead on the spot,
lie immediately fled and has
not yet been arrested.

The following is from a late
"There are warnings which ought
not to be neglected. "The Aristocra
cy and the Church are boldy denoun
ced every where1 as the enemies of
the country. This expression of a
deeply felt conviction is not to be
trifled with., The lime for snctring
or railing is gone by. During peri
ods of indifference, men may be
laughed outof their feeble resolves; but
enthusiasm and resolution never jet
were turned aside by such weapons.
It is possible that the great
personal popularity of ihe
present King, and the mere
house-hold reforms which he
is so judiciouly making,
will nor, secure England from
the agitating spirit of democ
racy, which is now abroad in
Europe. Certain it is, hat
her oppressive hierarchy and
aristocracy must sooner or
later be demolished. The
Press now speaks out boldly,
and the spirit-stirring events
which so rapidly follow each
other on the continent, may
soon spread a flame over the
"fVist-anchored isle," which the
united cflbrts of the aristocracy,
the church and the army, can
not allay. The pride of English
men will not permit them to
remain less free than the freest
nation of Europe.... Wash. Tel.
The true purpose of Govern
ment. The London Morning
Chronicle, of Sept. 24, says:
'There is not a government of
Europe which does not overstep the
limits, within which a goverment
ought to confine its exertions."
The London Editor might
have added the U. States of Am
erica to the class of over-governed
countries. He continues
"The only legitimate object of a
government is the protection of the
people under it from foreign aggres
sion, and from invading the rights of
each other."
He continues further:
"All of the business which has
been added, ihe favoring this branch
of industry and prohibiting another,
the favoring one set of opinions, and
the prohibiting another, in short, the
whole of the endeavor to control ac
tion and opinion, is founded in a
gross misapprehension of its proper
functionaries. A "paternal govern
ment," as it is called, is the most
mischievous of all."
Quere Is not this London
Editor a much better Republi
can than Henry Clay, Daniel
Webster, J. Q. Adams, Joseph
Gales, and John Azgl Wc
think he is. ib.
London Morning Chronicle:
I WILL inform the
public that I have a
young Archie horse, of
the first rale blood of
the mother side. He was got out of a
Ratler mare that was got out of one
of Collector's colts, that Collector got
out of a Mark Antony mare.
Is a dark chesnut sorrel, and is about
five feet one or two inches high, five
years old last spring. I let him cov
er a few mares at four years old; he
got ten or fifteen colts that cannot bo
excelled by any horse whatever, for I
will show with anv horse in the Uni
ted States. ALLEN DAVY can be
found four miles west of -Hamilton,
on Roanoke river; fifteen east of Tar
borough; fifteen above Williamston;
&rty below Halifax. I take this
pains to inform the public that there
is such a horse, as those gentlemen
wishing to raise good horses may
have the opportunity, as I have not
advertised him yet. If he can run, it
s unknown to any person; it is judg
ed ..that he can, but he-has not been
tried.- I shall iet him to mares next
spring at moderate prices, which I
will make known before the spring.
