On Tues day, John Bragg, Esq. of War ren, was elected to fill the re maining vacancy in the Board of Trustees of the University of this State. Star. Disaster. The Washington Union says: The schr. Ben Harrison, of and from this place, bound to New-York, sailed from the Bar on the 4th ult. On the same night, when with in a few miles from land, en countered a gale from the North "West: vessel hove too under two-reefed foresail, in 10 fath oms water. At i past 11 o' clock, while the captain was below, the vessel struck, and Boon after went ashore 3 miles South of Nag's Head. It is supposed she will bo got off. Her cargo, consisting of naval stores, is owned by Messrs. Hoyt & Labarbe, and is insu red. There is no insurance on the vessel she is owned by MessrB. Nathan &, Oliver O' Neal, of Hyde county. OOf the year that hast end ed, we may say that no man alive can remember its parallel in one respect, viz: its having contained two winters, both ve ry severe onesthe first of wliicn began on the 15ih Janu ary, and the other on the 21st November. Nat. Int. Marriage and Death. Mar ried, in Florence, (Alabama) on Thursday, the 1st ult. Mr.Tlio rritts Booth, of Franklin county, to Miss Frances Cox, of Flor ence. On Saturday night, Mr. Booth and his wife lodged at Lagrange, in Franklin county, both apparently in fine health. On tho following morning the bridegroom awoke and found Ins bride a lifeless corpse. This young woman had all the ap pearance of vigorous health, and it appears difficult to con jecture the cause of her sudden nd tinpremonished dissolution. Unfortunate Occurrence. The Lynchburg Virginian says: Vis.loarn by a letter from Lib erty, Bedford county, that Mr. kdwin Sayro was shot by Mr V, Marshall Jones, on the Jlst ult Jim bclow thc j j of thu br. We have been furnished with the particulars; but as tho affair will, in all pro bability, be legally investigated, itmay .be improper to publish them. Mr. S. lived about an hour and a half after he was shot, and expired perfectly in his sensrs. Both Mr. Jones and Mr. Say re were young men, and both members of the bar. They had removed, Mr. Jones from the neighborhood of Win Chester, about two years ago, and Mr. Sayrefrom Fredericks burg, about six months since. Jones fled immediately after the commission of the act, and has not been heard of. We under stand that he took the road to wards the Peaks of Otter. G?"A letter from Richmond, Va. mentions that Mrs. Mar shall, wife of Chief Justice Mar shall, died on Sunday last. Judge Marshall and his lady had lived together 49 years. tLT'IJtc 22(1 February next will be the centenary of the birth of Washington. On the completion of each centenary after the birth of Shakspearc, there was held a grand jubilee at the place of his birth, and the processions and ceremonies were made the subjects of the atrical representation. The damages are estimated at about $25,000; of which 85,000 were insured.
