PROPOSALS, For publishing in the town of Tarbotough, N. C a semi-monthly paper, entitled TIIE PRIMITIVE BAPTIST, EDITED BY M VKK BENNETT, Printed and Published by Geo. Howard. THIS publication isprincipally in tended todefeudtheold school United Baptists from ti e manj aspersions cast upon them bv deluded persons proteasing their own faith, because they cannot conscientious ly engage in the various money-making schemes of the day, osleiiM' ly intended to promote Christianity, but evidently tend ing to destroy the great and fundamental principles upon which it is based, by mak ing a gain of godliness. We wish to hae it distinctly understood, that we are not inimical to Masonry, Temperance, the dis tribution of the fJible, or the spread of the Gospei but we do condemn the mingling of professors and non-protessors of reli gion in societies, and the making a "craft of religious matters, in every shape and foitn whatsoever. Believing that Theological Schools, Bi ble. Mi-sionary, Tract, and Sunday School Union Societies, are the same in principle unscriptural savor more of "lucre than of ''good will towards men," we are opposed to them Some of the children of God, surrounded with, and interspersed amongst, the advo cates of missionary and other societies, are denied the happiness of conversing with those of the same judgment. Ot tiers, wtiile gri ved witti oeliouung corruptions of the Gospel, are not able to speak for them selves. This is designed, under God. for their relief. We shall aim not so much to please the fancy, as to inform the judgment more to afford matter for solid and last ing comfort, than to give a momentary glow to the feelings. We consi-ler that the cause of tru'h and of Christian solace is our cause. Deeply impressed with the belief that tU blessing even of truth itself is of the Head of the Church, we cast our. selves upon Him, and send our little paper abroad, praying Ihe Lord to carry with it some joy to those who are in tribulation, and a little rest to those who are troubled. TERMS. The Primitive Baptist is published in super-royal octavo form of 16 pages, on the second and fourth Saturdays in each month at One Dollar per year, payable on receipt of the first number.
