THESE works have been published
by us for five yeais. 'There- ate
now more subscribers for ihem, probably,
thon for any olher paper published in the
United Stiles; certainly more than there
are for any olher published in this Dis
trict. This laige and increasing subscrip
tion is conclusive evidence of their use
fulness. They are invaluable to all ho
feel an interest in the proceedings of Con
g'e'ss. No other publication gives th'-m
so fu.ll, nor half so cheap. It is, indeed,
the clieapest publication in the United
States perhaps in the world. Our posi
tion at the seat of Govern nenl enables us
to print them at s low a rate.. We are
compelled 10 publish the proceedings of
Congress in detail for our daily paper.
This done, it requires, comparatively, but
a small addiiional expense to change them
to the forms of the Congressional Globe
and Appendix. If it were not for these
circumstances, we could not publish them
for four limes the sum charged..
The Congressional Globe
Is made up of the daily proceedings of the
two houses of Congress, aud the speeches
of the members condensed. The yeas
and nays on all important subjects are
given. It is published weekly, with small
type, 011 sixteen royal quarto pages.
The Jppendiiv
Contains thi speeches of the' members,
at full length, written out by. themselves.
and is printed in the sum) form as the
Cotigressionol lobe. It is published
as fast as the speeches can be piepared.
Usually mere are more numbers printed
for a session than there are weeks in it.
Each of these works is complete in it
self. Cut it is teirable for every subscri
ber to have both; became, if there should
be any ambiguity in the synopsis of a.
speech in the Congressional Globe, or any
denial of its correctness, it may be remov
ed at once, by referring to the speech in
tue Appendix.
Indexes to both are sent to subscribers,
as soon as they c;in be prepared.
'1 he last session of Cou?iess hem" a
very important one, we printed about five
thousand extra copies of ihe Congressional
Globe mid Adpendix, calculating upon
being able to dispose of them to peisons
who aie not regular subscribers. The
former makes lot), and the latter upwards
of 2K), royal qua.it- pages. As the main
subject proposed at that session the sepa
ration of Bank and State has been post
poned until the next session, they will
be useful, wc may say necessary, for those
wiio subscribe for the next session; and
we shall therefore reserve them for those
subscribers who desire them, aud shall
first subset ibe for them. Though not so
voluminous as the proceedings of ordinary
sessions, the important subjects discussed
will render these volumes notles3 valuable
than any which have been, or oi.ty here
after be, printed. Every subscriber for
the next session, who intends to file the
papers, should procure copies of the last.

Raleigh, September 1. 1836.
For five or six years previous to the
spring of 1834, a negro man of mine had
been much afilicted with an ulcerated arm
and hand, which rendered him almost use
less. The ulcer embraced that part of his
arm from the elbow down, including his
colire hand, which was literally a mass of
putrefaction. A joiut of one finder, and a
part of the thumb, perished and dropt ofT.
A more distressing and hopeless case 1
have never beueld. It was abandoned by
his physician as incurable, except by am
putation of the hand.
The best medical treatment having fail
ed to relieve the man, I placed him under
the care of Mr. William W. Gray, in this
place, who, with his Ointment, has effectu
ally cured the case, although the negro
was frequently absent, for weeks and
months together. He hag been entirety
well for the last eight months, and 1 have
good reason to believe will continue so.
