Doctor W. EVANS' SOOTHING SYRUP For children Teething, PREPARED BY HIMSELF, To Mothers and Nurses. Hp II E passaged' the Teeth through the gums produces troublesome and dan- oerous symptoms. It is known by moth ers that there is great irritation in the mouth and gums during this process. The gums swell, the secretion of saliva is in creased, the child is seized with Irequent and sudden fits of crying, watchings, start ing in the sleep, and spasms of peculiar parts, the child shrieks with extreme vio lence, and thrusts its lingers into its mouth. If these precursory symptoms are not spee dily alleviated, spasmodic convulsions uni versally sunervene. and soon cause the t , dissolution of the infant. If mothers who have their little babes afflicted with these distressing symptoms, would apply Dr. "William Evans's Celebrated Soothing Syrup, which has preserved hundreds ol infants when thought past recovery, from beintr suddenly attacked with that lata! malady, convulsions. A real blessing to Mothers. Dr W. Evans1 celebrated Soothing Syrup for children cutting (heir teeth. This infallible remedy has preserved hundreds of Children, when thought past recovery, from convulsions. As soon as the Syrup is rubbed on the gums, the child will recover. This preparation is so in nocent, so efficacious, and so pleasant, that no child will refuse to let its gums be rubbed with it. When infants are at the age of four months, though there is no ap pearance of teeth, one bottle of the Syrup should be used on the gums, to open the pores. Parents should never be without the Syrup in the nursery where there are young children; for if a child wakes in the night with pain in the gums, the Syrup immediaiely givesease by open ing the pores and healing the gums; there by preventing Convulsions, r evers, Sic. C?" Proof positive of the efficacy of Dr. E- vans soothing byrup. To the Agent of Dr. Evans' Soothing Syrup: Dear Sir The great benefit afforded to my suffering infant by your Soothing Syrup, in a case of protracted and painful dentition, must convince every feeling parent how essential an early ap plication of such an invaluable mediciue is to relieve infant misery and torture. My infant, while teething, experienced such acute sufferings, that it was attacked with convulsions, and my wife and family sup posed that death would soon release the babe from anguish till we procured a bot tle of your Syrup; which as soon as ap plied to the gums a wonderful change was produced, and after a few applications the child displayed obvious relief, and by con tinuing in its use. I am glad to inform you, the child has completely recovered, and no recurrence of that awful complaint has since occurred; the teeth are emana ting daily and the child enjoys perfect health. I giveyou my cheerful permission to make this acknowledgment public, and will gladly give any information on this circumstance. WA1. JOHNSON. C7So!d at Dr. W. Evans's Office, 100 Chatham street, N. THE CAUSE OP Bilious Complaints, And a mode of cure. A WELL REGULATED and propor- tionate quantity of bile upon the stom ach is always requisite for the promotion of sound health it stimulates digestion, and keens the intestinal canal free from all obstructions. On the Inferior surface of the liver is a peculiar bladder, in which the bile is first preserved, being formed by the liver from the blood. Thence it passes into the stomach and regulates the indigestion. Thus we see when there is a deficiency of bile, the body is constant ly costive. On the other hand, an overa bundance of bile, causes frequent nausea in the stomach; and often promotes very severe attacks of disease, which sometimes end in death. Fevers are always preceded by symp toms of a disordered stomach; as are also scrofulous disorders, and all sympathetic functional, organic or febrile diseases. From the same cause, the natural and healthy action of the heart, and the whole vascular system is impaired and reduced below its natural standard: as exhibited in palpitations, languid pulse, torpors of the limbs, syncope, and even death itself, in consequence of an overabundance of a pe culiar offensive subslauce to the digestive oreans. The approach of bilious diseases is at all times attended by decided symptoms of an existing diseased state of the stom ach and bowels: i. e. with those signs which are known to point out their t on- tents to be of a morbid irritating nature; but whenever the alimentary canal hap pens to be loaded with Irritating matter, some derangement of the healthy opera tion, either of the general system or ol some particular organ of the body is the certain result; and when this state happens to be united with any other symptoms of disease, its effects are always thereby much aggravated. The progress of organic obstruction is often so rapid as scarcely to admit of time for the application of such aid as is to be offered by art, yet, in gene ral, the premonitory symptoms of gastric load are perceptible for a day or two pre vious to the feverish paroxism, a period. when the most efficacious assistance may be given, by unloading the stomach and alimentary canal of its irritating contents, and thus reducing the susceptibility of dis ease. illotfaVs JLifc tlleilicincs, Should always be taken in the earlystages of bilious complaints; and if persevered in strictly according to the directions, will positively effect a cure. The mineral medicines often prescribed in these diseases, although they may effect a temporary cure at the same time create and unhealthy state of the blood and con sequently tend to promote a return of the very disease which they are employed to cure. It is then by the use of purgatives, exclusively formed of vegetable compounds which possessing within themselves no deleterious agencies, which decomposition combination, or alteration can develope or bring into action, and therefore capable of producing no effect save that which is de sired that a safe remedy is found. The JAlh Pills & PhenLv Bitters Have proved to be the most happy in their effects in cases of bilious diseases of any purely vegetable preparation ever offered to the publict If the stomach is foul, they cleanse it by exciting vomiting or nausea in the stomach stimulating the neighboring vicera, as the liver and pancrass, so as to produce a more copious flow of their se cretions into the intestines; stimulating the exhalent capillaries, terminating in the in ner coat, which an increased flow of the useless particles of the body, foreign mat ters, or retained secretions, are completely discharged. Brady, in Tarborough. Gigs, &c. will be repaired in the most expeditious manner, and on the most rea sonable terms. STEPHEN BRADLEY. April 5, 1S39. 14 PUBLIC OPINION has placed these well-known Pills at the head of A- merican Patent Medicines, and the great demand for them thoughout Europe, and the counterfeits which have been made of them in both England and France, ful ly prove that their virtues are extensively appreciated on the other side of the Atlan tic. And this popularity is not an ephem eral one, resting upon the purchased eu logy of the proprietor; but is the natural effect of the intrinic merits of the pills themselves, and therefore must be per ma nent. Indeed the demand for the pal year has been so great as hot only to place them beyond the need of puffery, but to render a supply impossible; as Dr. Peters will on no account permit a single pill to leave his laboratory, that has not been compounded under his own immediate inspection. The public is generally aware that Dr. Peters' Pills Are purely vegetable, and are so free from any mixture of a deletrious natun as to be impervious to the changes o( time. or climate which gives them an immense advantage over the majority of medicines: especially with persons who travel, or have to locate themselves in distant countries. Thus they will be found equally benefi cial in the Torrid zone; and it is an actual fact, that (owing to their salubrious in fluence on the blood) they are considered powerfully efficacious on the usual com plaints of those diametrically opposite cli mates. The proprielor had flittered himsell when he issued his last pamphlet, that he could effect no further improvement in the manufacture of his pills; but he has now to slate that in this he was deceived, as he has made two improvements, whicl greatly enhance their value. These are produced by hi two newly invented, and patented machines, the one for making. and theother for counting globular sub stances; the former of which turns out the pills perfectly smooth and bound, which render them much easier to swallow than any that have been previously manu'aclu red; and the latter counts them will out in any way effecting their shape, which can not be the case when they are parsed into their boxes by the fingers; and the propr etor would here impress this fact upon the public, that al no lime is the hand or fin gers made use of in the preparation of hi medicine, which ensures its freedom from impurities that it might otherwise inhah from the human flesh. Independent of this, the manufacturing machine, by its great weight, and immense rapidity, mix es, and generalizes the component parts of the medicine much more effectually than the old fashioned grooved plate; and again, the former is composed cf steel, while the latter is always made of brass, which gives a decided ail vantage to the new invention, as the one possesses many me dicinal vir ues, while the other i pregnant of pre p. -it i es injurious to the human health. The above machines have excited a great ileal of attention in New York, as they -.i ii . i . save ine lanor oi inirrv persons; ami it is probable the former may supercede the ne cessity of the shot lower. And the pro prietor has the pleasure to add that they were honored with no less than three pri zes at the Fair of the American Institute; namely, a gold and a silver medal, and a diploma. By their almost miraculous effect upon the chyle, which is the fountain hid of health and disease, Dr. PETERS' PILLS may be justly considered a universal medicine, but they are peculiarly henefi cial in the following complaints: Bilior.s I vers, Fever and Ague, Dyspepsia, Liv er Complaint, Sick Headache, Jaundice, Asthma, Dropsy, Rheumatism, Enlarge ment of the Spleen, Piles, Colic, Female Obstructions, Heart Burn, Furred tongue, Nausea, Distension of the Stomach and Bowels, Incipent Diarrhoea, Flatulence. I Habitual Lostsvenrss Loss of Appetite. Blotched, or Sallow Complexion, ami in all cases ol lorporofthe Bowels, where a Cathartic or an Aperient is needed. They are exceedingly mild in their oper ation, producing neither nausea, griping, nor aeoiiuy.
